The Last Frontier Episode 4 recap: Frank searches for Archive 6 and two convicts create havoc

Apple TV's The Last Frontier Episode 4 shifted the focus from Havlock to two other convicts, who target a state trooper and one of Frank's own. The show was too invested in Frank and Havlock's cat-and-mouse chase that it forgot about the Fairbanks' residents. Frank's community is constantly living under the threat of the convicts, which almost gives the series a dystopian feel.

The Last Frontier Episode 4 also revealed some flashbacks about Sidney and Havlock's lives when the two were falling in love with each other. Frank and Sidney have finally developed a strong working relationship with each other, which may benefit them and potentially lead them to Havlock.

The Last Frontier Episode 4 recap: Kitty and Viv's terror spreads

The action in The Last Frontier Episode 4 quietly shifts from Havlock to two female convicts, an old woman named Kitty and a young con woman named Vivian. While Vivian looks smart for her age, Kitty is the leader among the duo, who has murdered five of her millionaire husbands and was caught at the 6th. She is currently a multi-millionaire who has concealed a special chip inside her glasses, which lets her transfer money from her account anywhere.

After Kitty is caught in a bear trap, Vivian tries to help her, and they both murder a state trooper in the process. Frank and the FBI appear on the scene to investigate the death, and after ruling out Havlock, Frank realizes that the women are heading towards Aero Excursions, probably to get a pilot and fly away from this place.

While Frank and Sidney locate the woman, Kitty and Vivian manage to kidnap a pilot. However, at the last moment, Kitty abandons Viv and makes a run with the pilot. Frank and Sidney arrive in time, and after cutting a deal with Viv, who provides them with directions to Kitty's location, they apprehend the old and dying woman. While Frank is unable to shoot Kitty, Sidney finally shoots her and closes the chapter once and for all.

The Last Frontier Episode 4 recap: Havlock's hunt for Archive 6 continues

Since Frank and Sydney had shifted their attention from Havlock, this was the perfect opportunity for him to blend in with Frank's Alaskan community. While the community gathers to search for the escaped convicts, he joins the search party and manages to trick two people into letting him use their Internet. Havlock connects to a Russian spy named Armen Zhdanko, the one he contacted in The Last Frontier Episode 3 after bargaining Sidney's Xenogate password.

Elsewhere at the CIA HQ, we learn that the CIA was unable to get Armen from his house in Russia because somebody had already tipped him off. Mark informs Sidney that a man (named the Courier) was given a briefcase by Havlock, which contains Archive 6.

Havlock's video meeting with Armen in The Last Frontier Episode 4 reveals that the courier arrived in Fairbanks one day before the crash and is now waiting to hand over Archive 6 to Havlock (since he was the highest bidder). However, Frank is not too far behind, and thanks to the Courier's fake documents, he discovers his identity. He is a Russian man named Vincent Thiago, and now Frank has to get him before Havlock.

The final moments of The Last Frontier Episode 4 checked in with Luke and Kira, who were forced to flee their cabin with the convict who found them. Luke smartly opens the convict's seatbelt and crashes their car.

After the convict is badly hurt, Luke uses the opportunity and asks Kira to make a run for it, while he handles the convict. It remains to be seen what will happen to Luke.
