Without that, the network will be fed the combined power of the backup battery, resulting in a malfunction. However, Cole was too late to come to that realization and Fairbanks is plunged into darkness. Romero's plan works even in death. The episode ends on a high-tension cliffhanger, where Fairbanks loses power in a deliberate, town-wide blackout orchestrated as part of Romero’s plan. In the last minutes, we see emergency services stretched thin and phone and radio communications impaired.
