The Last of Us came back with its second season on April 13, 2025, almost after two years since Season 1 premiered. New episodes are dropping weekly, and with the release of the latest episode, viewers are reminded once again that no matter how scary some humans are on the show, the major antagonists remain the infected.
In a tense subway sequence in The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 4, Ellie and Dina have to face the infected as they reach Seattle to find Abby killing Joel in episode 2. The whole sequence instantly instilled fear, and yet was exciting. It brought the momentum of action back in the show, which had been missing for quite a while in terms of showing the attacks of the infected.
While Ellie and Dina successfully escaped the infected in the subway, the horror that they confronted remains unmatched and also shows how humans, even the evil ones, stand no chance against them.
The subway sequence in The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 4 brings back the action
Two new groups have been introduced in The Last of Us Season 2, namely the Seraphites and the Washington Liberation Front. Both of these groups are keen on taking over Seattle and are ready to go to any lengths for the same.
When Ellie and Dina arrive in Seattle in search of Abby, they don’t have a solid plan, and they're aware of the various threats that the city can pose. After finding a bunch of dead bodies at the television station that were hanging from the ceiling with their intestines out, the duo are forced to enter the subway to escape the WLF chasing them.
However, after entering the subway and witnessing what subsequently happened there, Ellie and Dina realized that their real threat remains the infected. As a horde of infected surrounds the duo and the WLF soldiers, it seems like there is no way to get out of this.
As the soldiers are killed by the infected, Ellie and Dina somehow manage to get hold of a subway car that is full of skeletons and make a run for their life as the infected follow them to attack. The whole sequence is full of tension and when it seemed like everything was going to fall apart, the duo managed to escape.
The whole atmosphere of the sequence, including the sounds that the infected made, the dark, dim, and dirty subway, and the screams of people being killed by the infected, added to the tension and grit of the situation.
Since The Last of Us is essentially a dystopian story that has the infected as one of its founding storyline, the subway sequence served as an important plot line to remind the viewers what the show is really about.
The Last of Us can be streamed on Max, with new episodes of season 2 dropping weekly on every Sunday.
