The Lowdown Episode 5 will air on FX on October 14, 2025. Tulsa has become the next hot destination for gritty crime thrillers. Following Sylvester Stallone's small-screen debut in Taylor Sheridan's Tulsa King on Paramount+, we have another noir crime series set in Tulsa, Oklahoma, starring Ethan Hawke.
While the Predestination star's latest venture on the small screen is far less brutal than Sheridan's Tulsa tale, it is based on the life of a real-life Oklahoma citizen journalist. Ethan Hawke's character is loosely based on the real-life historian Lee Roy Chapman, who unearthed many secrets during his career as a journalist.
In The Lowdown, an eccentric reporter, Lee Raybon (Hawke), finds himself chasing after a powerful Tulsa family, which could lead to the story of his career. The FX series also features impressive performances by Keith David, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Kaniehtiio Horn, Peter Dinklage, Macon Blair, and Jeanne Tripplehorn.

The Lowdown Episode 5: Release and streaming details
The Lowdown Episode 5, titled This Land?, will air on FX on October 14 at 9 p.m. ET. A day later, viewers can also stream the episode on Hulu, FX's streaming partner. Previous episodes of the noir crime comedy series are also available on Hulu. The Lowdown will consist of a total of eight episodes in its freshman season, which will air weekly on FX every Tuesday night. The finale is scheduled to air on November 4.
The official synopsis for Episode 5 reads as follows:
"Lee spends a day with his worst enemy.''
This cryptic synopsis is the only preview we have for the upcoming episode of The Lowdown. While the identity of this 'worst enemy' will be unveiled in Episode 5, the entry is sure to increase Lee's problems tenfold. His passionate night with Betty Jo has already earned him an enemy in Donald, who saw him sneaking out of his lover's house in the previous episode. Combine this with Lee's recent kidnapping and the ominous preview of the upcoming episode, and our truth-teller will likely land himself in big trouble.
Lee's knack for conspiracy theories and his curiosity about the Washberg family history are taking an exciting turn in the FX series. Episode 4 concluded with a dark secret about the Washberg brothers, one among the many truths buried beneath the Tulsa family mansion.
A shocking secret came to light in The Lowdown Episode 4
The Lowdown Episode 4 was an interesting outing for Lee Raybon, who ended up having a one-night stand with Betty Jo, Dale's widow and the most important source for his current passion project. However, partly under alcohol's influence and partly in heartbreak over his ex-wife's second marriage to a dentist, Lee took this reckless step.
However, just before Lee and Betty got intimate, Dale's widow revealed an important secret about the Washberg brothers. Since Lee was eager to know why Dale and Donald were fighting right before the former's death, Betty Jo finally solved this mystery for the Tulsa truthstorian. She revealed that Donald and Betty Jo were lovers, but since the Washebrgs did not want a trash wife for their eldest son, she was married off to their gay son, Dale.
This arrangement not only allowed Betty Jo and Donald to continue their relationship after her marriage, but the Washbergs' gay son also found himself a bride. However, Betty Jo made Dale believe that Pearl was his daughter when, in reality, Donald had fathered her. The brothers were fighting over Pearl in the week before Dale's death.
Tune into The Lowdown Episode 5 on FX on October 14.
