The Marlow Murder Club Season 2 Episode 1 recap

The episode of The Marlow Murder Club begins with Sir Peter Bailey contacting Judith Potts, who has now acquired a reputation of solving murders in Marlow. Peter fears that something bad will happen at the party he is hosting at his manor the day before his wedding. Judith accepts the invitation on the condition that her friend Becks and Suzie are allowed to come as well and Peter agrees.
Peter is marrying Jenny, who was hired as a nurse to take care of him. When his son Tristam arrives at the party, who wasn’t supposed to come, Jenny gets angry and Peter follows her. Soon, there is a loud crash-like sound in the house and as everyone rushes to check, Jenny is at the top of the stairs and the door to Peter’s study is locked. Tristam breaks it open as his sister Rosanna also comes and everyone sees that a heavy bookcase with scientific materials has fallen and Peter is underneath it and is dead.
Judith puts on her detective gloves in The Marlow Murder Club and begins to search the room keenly for any clues. As Tanika Malik arrives with the police, Judith tells Suzie and Becks to search for clues outside and Judith herself works with Tanika. Interestingly, the key to the room is found in Peter’s pocket and the family maintains that it is the only key to the room. Even the windows don’t open, so everyone thinks the death was an accident.
But Judith does not think the same in The Marlow Murder Club. She points out that a hook on the wall that held the bookcase has been detached knowingly. Judith notes when Tanika is questioning the family and it is revealed that Tristam was not supposed to attend the party as he accused Jenny of being a gold digger. Jenny mentions that she went upstairs to Peter’s bedroom to get a cigarette after fighting with Tristam and didn’t know that Peter followed her.
Further, Tristam’s father had refused to give his sister Rosanna a loan for her business and Judith notes that Rosanna’s jacket is missing a button on the cuff and she didn’t see her outside at the party.
Soon, the family lawyer Andrew Husselbee arrives and he has come to collect the new will that Peter made just three weeks ago. In the old will, everything would have gone to Tristam, but even Andrew does not know what the new will has inside. However, there is a shocking turn as the new will is not inside the safe upstairs, the combination has been changed recently and Jenny cries when she sees the wedding bands inside.
Suzie and Becks are also trying to solve the case in The Marlow Murder Club and they find footprints outside the damp ground outside Peter’s study. Becks mentions that the pattern is from a lady’s set of Hunter wellies. The trio of ladies soon go home to consider all the clues.
Apart from the case, Suzie’s daughter is leaving for university but does not want to spend time with her mother, which bothers Suzie. Becks and her husband are having a healthy relationship and Judith stays busy doing the crosswords.
The police compile all the events so far in The Marlow Murder Club and deduce that Peter died around 3 pm after his bookcase fell on him. Peter’s gardener Adam Warner had called the police three months ago when Tristam and Peter fought about Peter’s marriage. Adam mentions that a packet of rat poison went missing from the garden she and he think Tristam took it.
On the other hand, Jenny calls the trio of detective women to search for the new will. Jenny mentions that she started dating Peter a few months after she became his nurse and has always had good recommendations from her previous jobs. Soon, the trio find an untouched glass jar among the wreckage of the fallen bookcase. And the jar does not have fingerprints and has magnesium.
Rosanna’s story and a mystery woman in Tristam’s life

Judith from The Marlow Murder Club also finds the missing button from Rosanna’s coat in Peter’s dressing room and Rosanna’s company lists a home, which is that of her mother, Lady Bailey, whom Peter divorced three years ago. The trio go to the office in the backyard where Rosanna works.
Rosanna mentions that she did not like Tristam as he was the first-born child who got everything, even though he did not do anything worthwhile. On the other hand, Rosanna runs a consultancy that helps people and she was facing some difficulties recently. When she asked her father Peter for help, he refused her.
She fought with her father and came back after a few days to apologize but saw her father create a new will with Adam and Andrew as witnesses. She decided to try and open the safe and see the new will during the party but the combination had changed. When she heard Jenny come upstairs, she hid in the dressing room and that is why her button was found there. She vouches that Jenny was with her when the bookcase fell.
As the trio come back to Peter’s manor in The Marlow Murder Club, they see Tristam fighting with Jenny and claiming that it is his house now. Suddenly, he gets a call from someone called “cupcake” and leaves. The trio follow him and they see Tristam meeting a woman and the two kiss.
Tanika is ordered to stop investigating the death of Peter unless new evidence comes and as the key does not have any marks of being copied, it seems that it was the only one. Therefore, Peter’s death could be an accident. But Tanika also thinks that it was murder as Peter knew something bad would happen at the party. Soon, Tanika and Judith agree to meet and Tanika mentions that she thinks that Tristam had an accomplice inside the room to kill Peter.
