The Marlow Murder Club is a British mystery and comedy drama series that features Samantha Bond, Jo Martin, and Cara Horgan. The show is based on the series of novels by Robert Thorogood and is set in the town of Marlow in Buckinghamshire.
The Marlow Murder Club has two seasons, and the show began with a focus on three women, who investigate a series of killings in the tiny town. One of the women is Judith Potts (Bond), who is a retired archaeologist. The other two are Suzie Harris (Martin) and Becks Starling (Horgan), who are a dog-walker and a vicar’s wife, respectively.
The Marlow Murder Club is a cozy whodunit series, and after the mysterious death of Sir Peter in Episode 1 of the show, here’s a quick recap of Episode 2.
The Marlow Murder Club Season 2 Episode 2 recap

DS Tanika Malik tells Judith and Becks that Tristram Bailey has a secret girlfriend called Sarah Fitzherbert, and Judith, Becks, and Suzie had seen Tristram go and kiss Sarah. Tanika decides to do a background check on Sarah, and the three ladies visit the coffee cart that Sarah runs.
Becks pretends to get emotional talking about a heartbreak, and Sarah reveals that she has been dating a guy on and off. His father died last week, and the guy came back for her. Judith reveals herself and asks Sarah where she was when Sir Peter died. Sarah says that she was at The Bounty pub.
At the pub, the bartender doesn’t remember her, and Suzie spends time with her daughter Zeta, who is about to go to college. On the other hand, Becks is trying to get a date with her husband, Colin, but both are busy. Judith is obsessed with the case and wants to know more about the date, time, and place in a newspaper crossword that she has noticed. Her friends don’t find anything unusual, though.
Lady Bailey, Sir Peter’s ex-wife, is wearing Hunter wellies, which match the prints the ladies found outside of Peter’s study when he died. The Marlow Murder Club questions Lady Bailey, and she says that she wanted to see his bride. Therefore, she snuck through the back garden during the party but didn’t see anyone. A glare from the sun also prevented her from seeing into the study.
At Peter’s home, the Marlow Murder Club spots another Lady Bailey’s boot prints, but something seems off to Judith. Interestingly, the gardener, Adam Warner, finds Peter’s need will in the compost heap, and the ladies rush over to get their hands on it. In the will, everything would go to Peter’s new wife, Jenny, if he died before the wedding. And if Peter died, then the blame would be on Tristram.
Adam is surprised that he didn’t get anything, even though he saw the will when it was made. He also mentions that he saw Lady Bailey after the Church bells chimed at 3 pm and before the crash of the bookcase that killed Peter. Further, Sarah has a police record as she got into a fight with a hunter at a protest against fox hunting.
Tristram is arrested, and Adam thinks Tristram stole the rat poison that killed Sarah, and it is found in Tristram’s car with his fingerprints on it. But Judith thinks that Tristram would not be so careless if he wanted to kill Sarah. Further, Sarah could not have killed Peter on Tristram’s behalf, as a video recording shows that she was at the pub.
Judith has a sudden realization that Lady Bailey did not get blinded by the sun based on the time of the day, and the Marlow Murder Club approaches Jenny and tells her that Tristram is the killer, but he will be released soon by the police and will kill Jenny. Therefore, the trio makes a plan to hide and catch him. As they wait, Tristram comes from the back and chokes Jenny. Tanika arrests Tristram. Suzie and Becks are upset that Judith played with the life of Jenny, and Tanika also leaves the case to Brendan.
Judith unravels the mystery behind the case in The Marlow Murder Club

However, Judith tells Jenny that it was Jenny who killed Peter. Jenny and Tristram fell for each other and made a plan to get Peter’s wealth. Jenny would pretend to fall in love with Peter, and then she would kill him. The inheritance would go to Tristram, and they would live together. Jenny went to the study and called Peter. She bashed his head and made it look like the bookcase killed him. She locked the door and then went upstairs.
Jenny also lit the magnesium tape, and its light blinded Lady Bailey. This led the bookcase to fall on Sir Peter, and she returned the key to the study in his pocket when his body was found. However, Jenny learned that Tristram also had a relationship with Sarah, and she therefore killed her. Tristram understood her and therefore attacked Jenny.
Jenny took the new will from the safe, and she allowed the will to be found so that Tristram would have more blame. Tanika hears this conversation and records Jenny’s confession. Ultimately, Judith and her friends staged an argument in front of Jenny, and the episode ended.
