The Masked Singer Season 13 finale ended in showstopping fashion as country star Gretchen Wilson was unmasked as Pearl and crowned the winner. The show, which features celebrities performing in elaborate costumes while panelists and viewers try to guess their identities, came to a dramatic conclusion with the unmasking of all four remaining contestants.
Wednesday’s two-hour special featured four dramatic reveals, with Andy Grammer as Boogie Woogie, Meg Donnelly as Coral, and Brian Kelley of Florida Georgia Line as Mad Scientist Monster rounding out the finalist lineup.
For Wilson, this win meant far more than just the Golden Mask Trophy:
“It wasn’t that long ago that I was immobile,” she shared after the reveal, opening up about a devastating injury that left her with shattered leg bones and eight months in a wheelchair.
She was given a new platform and an opportunity to reinvent herself with The Masked Singer. She demonstrated that her powerful voice and unwavering spirit are stronger than ever by pushing past her country roots week after week and singing everything from Blue Öyster Cult to Whitney Houston.
What happened in this episode of The Masked Singer Season 13?
The Masked Singer finale opened with panelist Rita Ora performing Pink Pony Club alongside the four finalists, setting the stage for an exciting conclusion to Season 13.
Mad Scientist Monster (Brian Kelley) kicked off the individual performances with Sugarland's Stay, showcasing his country vocals. Despite a strong run throughout the season, Kelley was the first contestant eliminated, finishing as the third runner-up.
Coral (Meg Donnelly) delivered a beautiful rendition of Moon River, demonstrating her Broadway-worthy talents. The actress and singer, known for her role in Disney's Zombies, placed as the second runner-up.
The final showdown on The Masked Singer came down to Pearl and Boogie Woogie. Grammer as Boogie Woogie performed Lewis Capaldi's Love The Hell Out of You, while Wilson as Pearl countered with The Pretenders' I'll Stand By You.
"It was a real chance for me to be able to prove to myself whether I've still got it," Wilson explained about her decision to join the show.
Elaborating:
"If I should be thinking about the next 10 years professionally, or the next 10 years in retirement."
Wilson had previously declined several invitations to join the competition.
"Am I too old for this? What are my real chances? But it kind of came this time at just the perfect time in my life, when I was getting through some health things, trying to reinvent myself," she told Variety.
Only 3 panelists correctly identified the finalists: Robin Thicke guessed Pearl was Gretchen Wilson, while Rita Ora correctly named Meg Donnelly as Coral. Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg accurately identified Brian Kelley as Mad Scientist Monster, but none of the judges correctly guessed Andy Grammer.
A season to remember
The Masked Singer's 13th season featured a remarkable conclusion that included emotional storytelling, nostalgia, and exceptional performances. Thematic shows honoured the ageless charm of the Rat Pack, celebrated country music with a Grand Ole Opry night, and paid tribute to classic franchises like Shrek and Ghostbusters.
In order to offer more layers of interest to the guessing game, the season also brought back the Golden Ear trophy for panellists and the "Crack the Case" clue portions.
Wilson's The Masked Singer triumph was especially moving because she revealed that she had experienced serious personal difficulties recently, including a spell of being confined to a wheelchair. Her experience on the show represented tenacity and a victorious comeback to the limelight.
The season concluded with a celebration of past champions and a nod to the show's enduring appeal.
Season 13 of The Masked Singer is now available for streaming on Hulu.
