The Mighty Nein Episode 1 is titled Mote of Possibility.
It is the first episode of a new animated show based on Critical Role’s second Dungeons & Dragons campaign. The episode came out on November 19, 2025, on Amazon Prime Video.
Amazon released the first three episodes together. Before the official release, Amazon put The Mighty Episode 1 on Prime Video’s YouTube for a short time around November 15–16, 2025, then removed it.
The show is based on Campaign 2 of Critical Role. The original cast all came back to lend their voices, including Laura Bailey, Ashley Johnson, Liam O’Brien, Taliesin Jaffe, Travis Willingham, Sam Riegel, Marisha Ray, and Matthew Mercer.
The story takes place in a fantasy world called Exandria. It follows a group of outsiders and runaways. Later, people call them the Mighty Nein.
In The Mighty Nein Episode 1, the group starts coming together. A very powerful magical object called the Beacon gets stolen. If used wrongly, it can break reality itself. Because of this, the group must work together, even if they don’t fully trust each other yet.
The Mighty Nein Episode 1 recap – Mote of Possibility
The Mighty Nein Episode 1 starts with a dark ritual inside a Zemnian room. A man is very desperate. His wife is dying, and he sacrifices her. He believes the Luxon Beacon will bring her back someday. Her soul gets pulled into the glowing Beacon.
Suddenly, there is a big explosion outside. Priestesses hurry to protect the Beacon. But assassins are already there. Three skilled thieves, Eadwulf, Astrid, and Dain, come out from the shadows. They move fast and hit hard. In a few seconds, all the guards are dead. The thieves steal the Beacon.
Their escape is wild but expert. Hallways fall apart behind them. Soldiers on horses chase them.
Meanwhile, Dain opens a magic portal right as an arrow hits him, and all three manage to escape through it. But the Kryn Dynasty is not far behind.
Soon after, a second explosion happens, which kills Dain. This moment starts a long and dangerous chain of events.

A strange friendship begins in The Mighty Nein Episode 1
Somewhere else in the city, Caleb Widogast walks around looking tired and messy. A group of teens teases him. He tries to break into a shop, but he fails. A goblin thief named Nott the Brave sneaks up and steals his pouch. Caleb chases her into an alley. He looks pale and shaky, and begs for his pouch back.
Nott sees how desperate he is, and she decides to help him instead of running away. Nott makes a deal:
If Caleb buys her a drink, she will help him break into the shop for real. They work together surprisingly well. Caleb pretends to vomit loudly on the street to distract people.
While everyone looks at him, Nott slips inside the shop. Inside, she finds something strange: a wanted poster of Caleb. It says he is wanted for murder.
At the same time, in The Mighty Nein Episode 1, Caleb finds a caged, angry creature. He tries to calm it with magic, but he cannot. After they escape, Caleb performs a magic ritual. He summons a glowing ghost-cat that he calls his “old friend.”
The cat fades away, and both Caleb and Nott start to cry. This moment brings them closer. Nott becomes impressed by Caleb’s magic and agrees to stay with him. She offers her thieving skills if he gives her more alcohol and magic supplies.
Beauregard’s investigation and the Empire’s secrets
On the Empire’s side in The Mighty Nein Episode 1, Beauregard “Beau” Lionett and her rigid partner Ruzimir check the place where the Beacon was stolen. The scene is scary and strange. Bodies and horses have rotted way too fast. There are weird footprints, and magic still hangs in the air.
Ruzimir ignores the clues because he already blames the Kryn. But Beau keeps looking. She finds a green crystal that makes magic stronger. Beau shows the crystal to her teacher, Zenoth. He makes fun of her and sends her away.
Beau feels something is wrong. She secretly follows him through the city, and discovers that Zenoth is secretly giving the same green crystals to Owelia, who works for the powerful mage Trent Ikithon.
The crystals aren’t leftovers from the attack; they are being made on purpose. Beau confronts Owelia, but Owelia is strong and uses magic and skill to beat her. Beau is badly hurt and almost dies. She only survives because Dairon, another agent from the Cobalt Soul, finds her.
Dairon tells her the truth: The Empire is hiding a big secret that could start a war. Dairon also tells Beau that people think she is unimportant and that this is actually her advantage, because no one will see her coming.

Ikithon, the Beacon, and visions of the future
At the same time, in The Mighty Nein Episode 1, Trent Ikithon takes care of Astrid and Eadwulf, the thieves who stole the Beacon for him. But Dain is dying. Ikithon ends his life quickly, and the Beacon absorbs Dain’s last energy.
To Ikithon, this sacrifice means nothing. He believes the Beacon is “the key to everything.” Later, the Beacon begins to glow. It shows mysterious visions: small flashes of things that will happen in the future of the story.
The visions show Trent Ikithon is standing next to King Dwendal’s dead body, hinting that the show might change some events from the original campaign. Mollymauk Tealeaf, a fan-favorite tiefling, is appearing for the first time. Yasha Nydoorin is stabbing Beau, repeating a moment where Yasha was controlled by dark magic. The ruins of Aeor in Eiselcross, hinting at powerful ancient magic and future adventures. The Somnovem, the Eyes of Nine, strange cosmic beings tied to the ending of the original story.
These visions show that the Beacon is not just a stolen object. It is a gateway to time, memories, and many possible futures.
A storm on the horizon
The Mighty Nein Episode 1 ends with the danger of war growing fast. The Kryn think the Empire stole their sacred Beacon. The Empire is ready to fight back.
Assassins, mages, soldiers, and secret plotters are all moving at the same time. Far away, a mysterious warrior fights through soldiers easily. This person is also searching for the Beacon.
Many secrets are starting. New alliances are forming. Important events are being set in motion. The Mighty Nein Episode 1 ends with a big, powerful setup for everything that will happen next.
The Mighty Nein Episode 2 starts right after the chaos from Episode 1. The Luxon Beacon was stolen, and now the Empire and the Kryn Dynasty are getting more suspicious and angry with each other. The tension between them keeps rising.
The episode shows how the theft begins to mess up both sides:
Fjord starts to feel strange new powers after the explosion.
Jester gets into trouble because of her silly tricks, and the Empire’s soldiers start watching her closely.
Essek is pulled deeper into the politics and pressure around the missing Beacon.
The Mighty Nein Episode 2 shows the first ripple effects of the Beacon disappearing. The conflict that began in Episode 1 becomes even stronger and more serious
