What happened in the season 2 premiere?

The first thing that the premiere confirms is that arms dealer Richard Roper is dead. The episode opens with Jonathan Pine and Angela Burr identifying Roper's body. Then, the episode cuts to 2025 as Jonathan now manages the surveillance unit, 'The Night Owls'. Pine is shocked to see one of Roper's mercenaries, Jaco Brouwer, during an operation. Soon, he uncovers a conspiracy involving Colombian philanthropist Teddy Dos Santos.

"Nine years have passed since Jonathan Pine tricked Richard Roper in Egypt and sent him into the hands of his Syrian captors. Now, Roper is dead, and Jonathan Pine has become Alex Goodwin, a low-level intelligence officer with MI6. Then, Pine sees an old Roper mercenary in London. And his new secure life begins to unravel."

What do we know about season 2?

The Night Manager returned for a second season, a decade after the first season premiered in February 2016. Jonathan has changed his identity to the low-level MI6 officer, Alex Goodwin. Pine has been lying low for a long time until he is pulled into being a secret agent again after the sighting of Jaco Brouwer. The synopsis for season 2 reads:

"Jonathan Pine (Tom Hiddleston) thought he’d buried his past. Now living as Alex Goodwin – a low-level MI6 officer running a quiet surveillance unit in London – his life is comfortingly uneventful. Then one night a chance sighting of an old Roper mercenary prompts a call to action and leads Pine to a violent encounter with a new player: Colombian businessman Teddy Dos Santos (Diego Calva). On this perilous new journey, Pine meets Roxana Bolaños (Camila Morrone), a businesswoman who reluctantly helps him infiltrate Teddy’s Colombian arms operation. Once in Colombia, Pine is plunged deep into a deadly plot involving arms and training of a guerrilla army. As allegiances splinter, Pine races to expose a conspiracy designed to destabilise a nation. And with betrayal at every turn, he must decide whose trust he needs to earn and how far he’s willing to go before it’s too late."

The Night Manager Season 2 is currently streaming on BBC iPlayer, and the fans outside the UK can watch the first two episodes on Prime Video from January 11, 2026.
