The CW and CBC Television's popular police procedural show, Wild Cards, debuted in January 2024. Created by Michael Konyves, this Vanessa Morgan and Giacomo Gianniotti-starring series was renewed for Seasons 3 and 4 in May 2025 by CBC Television in Canada. So if you like character-driven, witty, and fast-paced crime dramas with a pinch of comedic twist. Wild Cards is a perfect watch.
For the unversed, the plot of Wild Cards centres on the investigations of an unusual duo- Cole Ellis, a no-nonsense detective, and Max Mitchell, an unpredictable con woman. Together with the help of their unique skills, they solve cases in their own messy yet effective way, often bending the rules.
In an interview with The Nerds of Color in 2024, Vanessa Morgan opened up about her experience of playing Max Mitchell. She told,
"It’s been a growing experience for me. Me and Giacomo call it the Olympics of acting ‘cause it’s just like… it’s intense! Like, you’re constantly just, you know, when you don’t have a scene break, you’re just next one, next one, drill the lines, drill the lines. So I’ve just learned so much and it’s really made me feel like I could do any role after this experience.”
Morgan explained that even though the role she played in Wild Cards was tough and challenging, it helped her gain confidence and prepared her for whatever comes next.
Vanessa Morgan on fans' support and why she chose Wild Cards
When Vanessa Morgan was asked about the fan support she got throughout her career, she replied,
"Yeah, I have noticed the fan support, and I'm so grateful. I think the dream of an actress is to do your work with passion, but also have other people love you and be passionate about the work you're doing. It makes all the hours worth it. So I think I am so grateful. So I think that's why the ratings have done so well."
Morgan spilled the beans about what made her interested in playing the role of Max Mitchell in Wild Cards. She revealed that she enjoyed the disguise, different accents, and mystery of her character. She told,
"I loved how she would you know dress up in disguise. I think that's so much fun. "
She continued,
"The fact that there is so much mystery to her depth."
