The Outsider Episode 7 recap: The search for Holly and Jack’s complexity

The Outsider Episode 7, In the Pines, In the Pines, begins the morning after Holly’s unfortunate presentation, and everyone is stuck with how to move forward with the case. Ralph’s stubbornness starts showing up as he decides to get back to the investigation but instead just wanders around his house in a confused state. He even reacts condescendingly to Jeannie’s very real fear of the discovery that her nighttime visitor is real. Only Howard is on Ralph’s side, and things get interesting when he notices that Holly is missing. Ralph and Alec quickly find out that she is with Jack, which feels anticlimactic as the last episode ended on a cliffhanger. Holly escapes from Jack during a gas station stop, and even though her phone is destroyed, Ralph and Alec are able to get Holly back to safety.
On the other hand, while the show is unable to build tension around the progression of the case, it does give Jack some layers. The character does not feel like a one-dimensional cop anymore as he admits to Holly that he did not believe in God or the devil while growing up but is beginning to feel that something is out there. Jack begins to display signs that he is being targeted by the Grief Eater, and he becomes a tragic character instead of a villain.
The Outsider Episode 7 recap: Ralph’s dismissive attitude and Glory’s troubles

In The Outsider Episode 7, Claude quits his job after telling his boss that he is not feeling well, and Holly notices that there is a resemblance between Claude and Jeannie’s nighttime visitor. She explodes with rage at Ralph for not telling her about Claude’s encounter with Terry. Even Jeannie tells Ralph that he needs to step out of the investigation if he does not want to explore all the leads. Even Alec is annoyed that Ralph easily dismisses his story about a scary instance from Alec’s childhood. The episode brings to the fore Ralph’s conservative attitude towards solving an unusual case. He wants to believe Holly’s theories but does not act upon them.
Even Glory faces troubles as she finds a homeschool teacher for her kids and decides to go back to work. When she begins her job of being a real estate agent, her first attempt at selling a house does not go the way it should have gone. The husband stammers, and the wife silently stares at Glory. However, like Ralph, Glory is also stubborn and calls herself the “Bride of Frankenstein” and tells the couple that they will get a photo of her head in 360 degrees direction if they agree to a sale.
Therefore, Glory feels the brunt of her husband being charged with a vicious murder. When her children are forced out of school and she loses her job, Glory could have easily left the town. But she does not want to leave like a criminal, and she tells Howard to file a lawsuit over Terry’s death. However, she stops from naming Ralph as a party to all the trouble that she has gone through.
