Peacemaker Season 1 set the tone for something completely different in the superhero space, and with Season 2 officially landing on HBO Max on August 21, 2025, fans now know this won’t just be more of the same. Peacemaker Season 1 ended with Chris Smith emotionally wrecked, his team recovering, and the Butterflies gone, but not forgotten.

James Gunn confirmed that Season 2 will follow directly from the fallout of Adebayo’s public exposure of Amanda Waller and Task Force X. The new season is also set to be the first official TV entry in Gunn’s new DC Universe, connecting Peacemaker to whatever else is coming next.

The story is expected to focus more on the emotional aftermath of Chris killing his father, his ongoing hallucinations of Auggie, and what happens now that he’s known to the public. Harcourt is still healing, Vigilante remains unhinged, and Adebayo's relationship with her mother is broken.

The Cow is gone, but the damage is permanent. Gunn has already said this season will be darker and more personal, which makes rewatching Peacemaker Season 1 not just helpful, it’s essential. With new DCU connections and a deeper dive into Chris’s mental state, Season 2 is being built as a continuation, not a reset.
