Netflix documentary film, The Perfect Neighbor, follows Susan Lorincz, who claimed to be a perfect neighbor but was far from it.

Susan used to constantly complain about children playing on her property and harassing her, though that wasn't the reality. They played in a lot next to Lorincz's house.

Despite this erratic behaviour, no one had anticipated that all that complaining would lead to her killing a neighbor of hers, Ajike Shantrell Owens. Before committing the crime, and even after committing the murder, Susan Lorincz pretended to be a sweet lady, but one moment of three words exposed the real Susan to the world.

The moment in The Perfect Neighbor that exposed the real Susan Lorincz

The Perfect Neighbor narrates the story of a neighbor who is probably one's biggest nightmare, but pretends to be a sweet woman whenever the police show up to follow up on her 911 calls. What started as 911 calls complaining about kids playing on her property and disturbing her led to a murder.

In 2023, in Ocala, Florida, Susan Lorincz killed her neighbor, Ajike Shantrell Owens, in what she claimed was self-defence.

However, after proper investigation, she was charged with first-degree manslaughter and sentenced to twenty-five years in prison. The Perfect Neighbor gives us a look at exactly what happened. As its logline states,

"She was no stranger to police, routinely calling 911 on kids playing nearby. An American tragedy unfolds through bodycam and interrogation room footage."

While many neighbors knew the kind of person Lorincz was, many did not, including the police. But one moment gives us a look at the real Susan. As a Reddit user (@Serious Article1750) recently pointed out in a post, when Susan screamed at a police officer to wait for a minute, saying,

''WAIT A MINUTE!!!'' it showed how her sweet persona in front of the police was a fake one.

The Reddit user also elaborated, saying,

"It's bone-chilling. She sounds like a monster. In this moment, she likely thought it was one of the neighbours knocking, not a police officer. She doesn't have time to put on her 'I'm just a sweet old lady' voice with her various sob stories. This is the real Susan."

While we do know now how Susan was, the police weren't exactly sure of it initially. Yes, she did make several 911 calls that had no substantial reason behind them, but the authorities thought she was just another annoying neighbor in the area. They hadn't anticipated how cruel a person she was or that she would commit murder. But that one moment of impatience and anger portrays the kind of person she really was.

The Perfect Neighbor is created by Geeta Gandbhir, who is also a producer behind the show, along with Alisa Payne, Nikon Kwantu, and Sam Bisbee. Message Pictures, Park Pictures, and SO'B Productions are the production companies behind the show.

The Perfect Neighbor is streaming on Netflix.
