Netflix is ready to bring a new and chilling documentary titled The Perfect Neighbor, which will focus on a tragic event from 2023 in Florida. At the center of this documentary is Ajike Owens, a mother of four, who was killed by her neighbor after what started as a relatively minor disagreement.

Through this documentary, viewers will learn how a small issue between two neighbors took a life, while also exploring the impact of Florida’s controversial "stand your ground" laws. It allows citizens to use deadly force in situations where they feel in danger due to the other person.

As for the release date, The Perfect Neighbor will be exclusively released on Netflix on October 17, 2025. But before that, the documentary will also have a limited theatrical release beginning October 10, 2025.

Interestingly, the director of this documentary has a personal connection to the story because Ajike Owens was the best friend of her sister-in-law. This way, it became crucial for Geeta Gandbhir to explore the tragic story in detail and let the viewers know what really happened.

Netflix has released some of the most tragic and heartbreaking documentaries of all time, and The Perfect Neighbor will be one of them. As mentioned above, it will first have a theatrical release on October 10, followed by a global release on Netflix on October 17, 2025.

Netflix subscribers around the globe will be able to watch the documentary and explore the shooting of Ajike “AJ” Shantrell Owens, a black woman and mother of four. While Owens was 35, her shooter, Susan Lorincz was a 58-year-old white woman.

What to expect from The Perfect Neighbor on Netflix?

The Perfect Neighbor will take a close look at the murder of Ajike Owens. While Lorincz claimed that she fired at her neighbor out of self-defence, an all-white jury found her guilty of manslaughter within two hours of deliberation and announced 25 25-year sentence for her.

Shockingly, Owens was shot in front of her 10-year-old kid, who was injured due to Lorincz's previous attack on him. Director Gandhbhir said:

"The Perfect Neighbor is a deeply personal project, created to transform grief into purpose and honor the lasting legacy of Ajike Owens and her family."

The documentary will shed light on Owens and Lorincz's history of disputes, during which other neighbors had to call the police sometimes. It was in June 2023 when Owens' son was attacked by Lorincz.

When the kid told what the woman did to him, Owens knocked on Lorincz's door to confront her. She was outside the house, waiting for Lorinz to come out and explain her actions against the 10-year-old kid.

But instead of resolving the conflict, Lorincz shot Owens using a 380-caliber gun. 911 was already on their way and took the woman to the hospital. However, it was too late, and Ajike Owens was announced dead.
