The Pitt, the HBO medical drama starring Noah Wyle as Dr. Michael Robinavitch (aka Robby), follows the medical staff at the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital’s ER through a challenging fifteen-hour shift. The show was renewed for a second season in February 2025. Created by R. Scott Gemmill, the show was released on Max on January 9, 2025, and wrapped up on April 10, 2025.
John Wells, R. Scott Gemmill, Michael Hissrich, Erin Jontow, Simran Baidwan, and Noah Wyle serve as executive producers. Wyle also stars as the protagonist, Dr. Michael Robinavitch. In April 2025, R. Scott Gemmill, John Wells, and Noah Wyle spoke to Deadline at Deadline’s Contenders TV, where Wyle teased season two of The Pitt.
Noah Wyle on The Pitt season two
The Pitt follows the struggles of attendings, residents, and interns working at the ER of the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital during a single fifteen-hour shift. The first season had fifteen episodes, each one covering an hour of the shift. The show’s logline describes the show as:
Emergency medicine doctors juggle personal crises, workplace politics, and high emotions in this drama series.
Other than Noah Wyle, the show stars:
- Tracy Ifeachor as Dr. Heather Collins
- Katherine LaNasa as Dana Evans
- Supriya Ganesh as Dr. Samira Mohan
- Fiona Dourif as Dr. Cassie McKay
- Taylor Dearden as Dr. Melissa King
- Isa Briones as Dr. Trinity Santos
- Gerran Howell as Dennis Whitaker
- Shabana Azeez as Victoria Javadi
All new castings for season two have not been announced, except for Sepideh Moafi, who is set to play an attending physician in a main role.
As Deadline reports, R. Scott Gemmill, John Wells, and Noah Wyle have said that season two of The Pitt will pick up the story ten months after the last hour of season one. It will also take place over a weekend, specifically the Fourth of July weekend. While we can’t predict everything, national holidays in medical dramas often bring the most trauma cases. As a result, the upcoming season’s shift is expected to be especially taxing.
Specifically speaking about how season two is shaping up, Wyle said to Deadline,
“it’s one of those things where you get in the room and you have a successful first season. Do we go bigger and better and louder and faster? Our job is not to outdo ourselves. Our job is to do ourselves. So think about what worked the first time and do it again. Don’t think about raising a bar on yourself. You don’t have to play by the rules we’ve established. Be faithful to the characters. We introduce the world to take the story that much further. So that’s kind of what our discipline’s been. There are exciting things that will happen, but it shouldn’t feel like we need to come out the gate with a bang to get attention. I think we’ll just tell another story.”
It is a relief to know that the characters are going to be prioritised in season two, and no sudden plot twist will be made solely for excitement. Since each season of the show focuses on just fifteen hours, the upcoming time jump adds a new layer of intrigue. The hope is that season two continues the story as intended while offering insight into what happened during those ten months and what now awaits the ER staff.
The Pitt is streaming on HBO Max.
