The show had previously hinted at Dr. Langdon stealing drugs from the hospital, but this episode confirms that he has an undisclosed addiction. During the episode, Dr. Santos, played by Isa Briones, shares her concern about missing prescriptions with Dr. Robby.

Dr. Robby confronts Dr. Langdon, who has been his right hand all along. Dr. Langdon tries to deviate by insisting that it is for his back issue that he developed while helping his parents move and that he is weaning off the medications. Dr. Robby finds Librium medication stocked in Dr. Langdon’s locker. Dr. Langdon tells Dr. Robby,

"Could a drug addict do what I do?"

But an enraged and broken-hearted Dr. Robby dismisses Dr. Langdon from his position at the hospital.

Patrick Ball talked about his character, Dr. Langdon’s addiction,

"He refers to having hurt his back while helping his parents move and that is frequently the case. He goes to a doctor who gives him pain meds and then those are habit-forming pain meds. This happens all the time. This happens with people that I know that are very, very high functioning."

He continued,

"You see this opioid problem that is just riddling itself all across this country. It’s really sad because it’s not people that ever set out to become addicts. It’s people that trust and that get caught in a trap. That’s part of what happened with Langdon."
