The Rainmaker is being called the perfect successor to Suits for USA Network.

Based on John Grisham’s novel of the same name, the legal drama premiered on August 15, 2025, and has consistently garnered good ratings.

The first season of the show will conclude on October 17, but USA Network has not yet officially greenlit a second installment. However, the creators already seem hopeful of the show’s continuation, and that is why they have decided to end Season 1 with multiple cliffhangers.

In a recent interview with Us Weekly, actress Lana Parrilla, who plays Jocelyn "Bruiser" Stone in the show, teased that The Rainmaker Season 1 will conclude in a way that will set up multiple storylines for Season 2. She said:

“[The show will introduce] some beautiful cliffhangers. Our season wrap-up is pretty stimulating. I will say, it is very suspenseful and exciting. It definitely sets up for the future.”

Lana Parrilla talks about The Rainmaker Season 2 ahead of Season 1 finale

During the interview, Lana Parrilla revealed that The Rainmaker can be continued for not just one but multiple seasons, as the show’s rich characters and their interpersonal dynamics can lead to several plots:

“Every character has a story arc. So it does leave us with an open-ended as to like, ‘Oh my God, what’s going to happen with these people, their dynamic and their relationship?' You end up really gravitating to all these characters, their stories, and their relationships to one another. There’s so many more seasons and stories that we can tell. It is suspenseful, and it’s a legal thriller.”

The Rainmaker tells the story of Rudy Baylor, a young lawyer who is fired from his job on the very first day. He then teams up with Jocelyn "Bruiser" Stone, an ambulance chaser, and Deck Shifflet, a not-so-honest paralegal, and takes up the case of a man who died a suspicious death in the hospital. In the court, he faces off against his former boss, Leo F. Drummond.

The show is based on John Grisham’s eponymous 1995 novel, which has already been adapted into a 1997 film directed by Francis Ford Coppola. However, in the novel and in the film, the character of Brusier was depicted as a man.

The US Network series has gender-swapped the role, which is now being played by Lana Parrilla. Talking about the change from the source material, the actress said in her interview:

“I think Bruiser is a great character to gender swap for so many reasons. One, she’s much more powerful as a woman. The reason being that Bruiser - in the novel - is super, super shady and questionable.”

She added:

“Rudy has multiple maternal figures [on the show], but Bruiser is the one who comes from a place of tough love. She’s like his coach and his mentor, who’s really pushing him to think outside of the box. She really has this great relationship with Rudy that I don’t think this character would have if Bruiser was male. It just would’ve been a battle of egos.”

Apart from Lana, The Rainmaker stars Milo Callaghan as Rudy Baylor, P. J. Byrne as Deck Shifflet, John Slattery as Leo F. Drummond, Madison Iseman as Sarah Plankmore, Dan Fogler as Melvin Pritcher, Robyn Cara as Kelly Riker, and Wade Briggs as Brad Noonan.

The Rainmaker airs new episodes on USA Network on Fridays.
