As a TV show running for over 35 years now, The Simpsons seamlessly blends satire with humour and social commentary, and is a pivotal animated series in the history of television. The show has followed the lives of Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie, as well as their adventures in the fictitious town of Springfield, since its first episode in 1989.

The Simpsons owes its popularity to a mix of social commentary, humour, and brilliant character creations. The show is responsible for spawning one of the largest universes of cameo appearances and creatively woven pop culture references and stories that have ever been done in television.

In the past, the show has created some of the most famous cinematic catchphrases, and with the 37th Season in progress, it doesn't show any signs of stopping.

The Simpsons Season 37 – Release date news, cast, and streaming details

Season 37 of The Simpsons will begin on 28th September. The first episode of this season will begin at 8/7c p.m. on Fox. In April 2025, Fox made a bold move, declaring the renewal of the series for 4 more Seasons, most likely until 2029 with Season 40. The official synopsis of the show on IMDb reads:

The satiric half-hour adventures of a working-class family in the misfit city of Springfield.

The voice cast also has seen little turnover, with original cast members returning for the latest Season. Nancy Cartwright, Dan Castellaneta, Hank Azaria, and Julie Kavner still lend their voices to the lovable characters, along with Harry Shearer and Yeardley Smith. Fans can also expect to see guest appearances from Kieran Culkin, Glenn Howerton, Danny Pudi, Cole Escola, and Albert Brooks, among others.

The new season will mark a significant milestone as the show’s 800th episode is slated for 2026. Viewers can expect stories from day-to-day happenings like including billionaire body hackers, skin care trends, and strange weight-loss techniques. The series still manages to deftly mix satire and cultural commentary while delivering the humor that has characterized it for decades.

Why are The Simpsons the heart of Springfield

At its heart, the comedy-drama series depicts the hilarity of everyday life in a dysfunctional family and the chaos that is the town of Springfield. The family is the source of most of the show’s humour, with Homer being the klutz, Bart causing all kinds of trouble, Lisa studying everything under the sun, and finally Maggie, who just watches everything go down.

Outside of the family, the show is known allusion-wise for having introduced many contemporary social issues into mainstream entertainment and satire elsewhere. Celebrity parodies are also a recurring theme. Individual Episodes often tackle real-world issues with the irreverent humour that has characterised the show for more than 35 years. The ability to maintain the spirit of the show and its comedic value, while making the necessary changes to adapt to the times, is nothing short of a marvel to audiences globally.

The Simpsons is a cultural juggernaut, straddling the line between entertainment and searing social commentary. With its inclusion across several streaming platforms, the show continues to not only be available for fans to enjoy and re-watch time and time again, but also the experimental processes that brought the show from concept to critical success to a spot in the cultural zeitgeist of television.
