The Spot, Hulu's upcoming drama series, has finally found its leading lady in Emmy-winning actress Claire Danes (Homeland). Danes will be seen opposite fellow Emmy-winning actor Ewan McGregor.

Hulu's upcoming drama hails from A24 (lead studio), in co-production with 20th Television. The Spot is created by Ed Solomon (Now You See Me), who will also serve as the showrunner, screenwriter, and executive producer on the project.

Claire Danes joins the project following Kate Winslet’s quiet exit, with the Mare of Easttown star reportedly stepping away due to creative differences. Winslet was roped in to star and executive produce (via her Juggle Productions banner) on the series, but her exit paved the way for Claire Danes.

The Spot will feature Danes and McGregor as a couple whose idyllic life begins to crumble after a mysterious hit-and-run accident. Blending domestic drama with edge-of-your-seat tension, the series promises an emotional deep dive into how far people will go to protect the ones they love and the lies they tell to survive.

More on this in our story.

Hulu's The Spot will be a gritty suspense drama series

According to Deadline, the official logline for the series reads as follows:

''[The story follows a] successful surgeon and her school teacher husband who begin to suspect she might be responsible for a child’s hit-and-run death. Their quest for truth spirals into a web of mounting suspicion and dark secrets, testing their resolve and their relationship as they confront the possibility of hidden guilt and betrayal.”

Claire Danes will play the character of a surgeon who becomes entangled in a child’s hit-and-run death. Things get even more conflicted for her when her schoolteacher husband (played by McGregor) starts to suspect her of the crime.

The Spot sets the stage for a psychological thriller with domestic noir undertones, blending emotional drama with moral ambiguity. At the heart of the narrative lies the crumbling certainty within a marriage, which will be perfectly brought out by Claire Danes and Ewan McGregor’s impressive talents. The series will likely explore complicated themes of moral conflict, shifting loyalties within a marriage, and the emotional disintegration of the characters.

A quick overview of The Spot star cast

After Kate Winslet's exit from Hulu's The Spot, Danes is all set to take on yet another dramatic role. The actress will be paired opposite Ewan McGregor. The actors were brought together as leads in Jodie Foster's unrealized romantic film Flora Plum in 1999. While Danes was initially paired with Russell Crowe, he left the project after a shoulder injury, following which McGregor was recast in the film. However, Flora Plum was eventually abandoned altogether in 2005. Twenty years later, Claire Danes and Ewan McGregor will finally share the screen in Hulu's upcoming series.

Recently, Danes starred in the FX on Hulu miniseries Fleishman Is in Trouble alongside Jesse Eisenberg. In addition to The Spot, the actress will also be seen in Netflix's upcoming thriller miniseries The Beast in Me, alongside Matthew Rhys, set for a November 13 release.

Like his co-star, Ewan McGregor needs no introduction. The Scottish actor is most famous for his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars prequel trilogy. His career took flight with popular titles like Moulin Rouge, Angels & Demons, and Salmon Fishing in the Yemen. Additionally, his motorcycle-themed travel documentary series (Long Way) is also a hit among viewers. The Spot star was last seen in Paramount+'s historical miniseries A Gentleman in Moscow, where he played Count Alexander Ilyich Rostov.
