The Stolen Girl Episode 4 brings the audience to the edge as new revelations are made and years of lies are exposed. Elisa’s shocking secret comes to light. Rebecca, who is on the path to seek revenge, is losing her grip on the situation as things start to spiral out of control. Selma, on the other hand, is on a mission to solve the case even at the cost of her career.
The Stolen Girl follows the heartbreaking story of a family when their daughter is kidnapped after she goes for a sleepover at her friend’s house. The five-part series is based on the book Playdate by Alex Dahl. The story uncovers the many deceptions and events that surround Elisa and Fred’s search for their 9-year-old daughter Lucia.
Elisa struggles to hold it together
The episode starts with a fun-filled atmosphere, set about 11 months before Lucia is kidnapped. The family is seen having an amusing time playing miniature golf. Unknown to them, someone is watching the happy family. Meanwhile, in the present, set seven weeks after Lucia is taken, Elisa is giving a radio interview on Good Morning UK, where she is talking about her missing daughter.
The interviewer asks about Lucia’s last whereabouts in France and how people in the UK can help her. However, the conversation quickly takes a sharp turn as Elisa is cornered about the backlash she is facing online where the public is blaming her for the kidnapping. Elisa tries her best to defend herself but falls short and walks away.
Selma’s search for truth takes a new turn
Selma is back in Eyton and tries to speak to the lady she had interacted with before. But she shows her displeasure towards Selma for her article. The lady tells Selma about Elisa’s presence on the day her father died. Elisa’s father had died after falling down the stairs and Elisa had left the town before the ambulance got there. Selma is skeptical and starts looking into his death.
Though the police says that Elisa’s father’s death was an accident, Selma continues to question the officer. He tells her about a road accident on the day.
Rebecca is losing her grip on reality
In France, the police get hold of Milan’s car. Milan sends a warning to Rebecca. He gives her the contact of an associate so she can get a passport.
Meanwhile, people are continuing to find fault with the way Elisa and Fred are handling the situation. This eventually leads to a social worker turning up to check on George, leaving Elisa rattled.
Selma tells her editor about her discovery in Eyton. Even though he tells her to stop chasing Elisa, Selma keeps moving ahead.
Rebecca meets Milan’s associate and forces him to make a passport for Lucia and promises to pay the remaining money when she picks the passport from him.
Elisa and Fred are overwhelmed by the unwarranted attention. Fred suggests they leave the place, but Elisa wants to stay put.
Elisa’s truth comes to light
Meanwhile, Selma learns about a guy called Marcus Turner, who was charged with reckless driving. She messages Elisa to find out if she knows about Marcus. Elisa is shocked. She goes through the letters Marcus had sent her.
When Selma decides to pay her a visit, Elisa does not divulge any details about her connection with Marcus. Elisa even blames Selma for ruining everything with her articles. Selma is suspicious that something transpired between Elisa and Marcus that is connected to Lucia’s kidnapping.
Elisa meets Marcus in prison, where he is being held. The truth is revealed that Marcus and Elisa had an affair. He had taken the fall for Elisa as she was pregnant with their son George. He also informs her that the victim’s wife, Nina, had visited him, but he did not speak about Elisa.
Selma has been looking into Marcus tirelessly and learns about the man he had killed. When she learns that the person is Nicolas, Selma tries to match the picture of his widow, Nina, with the police sketch of Rebecca. She sends Nina’s photo to Elisa. She immediately confirms that the person in the picture is Rebecca.
Nina shares the picture with Fred, who tells her that he knew her as Sarah Banks, and they had spoken about Toulon in France. The pieces finally start to fall in place as Elisa decides to head to France.
Selma insists that Elisa tell the police about Rebecca’s identity. But Elisa pleads with her not to. Selma agrees only on the condition that Elisa drops the complaint against her and she accompanies her to France.
Rebecca takes an extreme step
In France, Milan suddenly enters Rebecca’s house and tells her that the police are following him. He tells Rebecca that she needs to pay him more money as she had been lying to him. The heated argument leads to Rebecca murdering Milan, which is witnessed by Josie.
Rebecca, who killed Milan in self-defense, is now trying to dispose of his body discretely. Lucia witnesses her cleaning the blood. Rebecca realizes that things have gone out of her control, and she has a breakdown.
