The Summer I Turned Pretty boss gives a cryptic answer when asked about using only one Taylor Swift song in Season 3

The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 episode 5, Last Dance was released on 6th August 2025, taking us closer to the wedding. The episode featured Jeremiah and Taylor both being unable to go to Cousins to help Belly with the wedding preparations, and Conrad helping her out instead. This caused a few moments of proximity between the former lovers, and we can clearly see the anguish Conrad is in.

In this episode, Conrad took over the narration, but there was no Taylor Swift song featured in the episode or in the last three episodes before this one. There has only been one Taylor Swift song featured in the whole of the third season. When Variety asked Jenny Han why that is so, she gave a rather cryptic answer.

The Summer I Turned Pretty is known for giving hints about the show through the songs, especially Taylor Swift songs. The teaser for season three featured the song Daylight from Taylor Swift's 2019 album, Lover and Red from her 2012 album of the same name. It became a popular speculation that Conrad might be the one Belly ends up with because Red was played at the moment Belly opened her door, and saw Conrad. Daylight was played during her moments with Jeremiah.

Thus, for episodes where Belly and Conrad get more screentime together, or something big happens, fans expect more Taylor Swift songs to be featured, since they give out subtle hints. But it hasn't happened in season three. In The Summer I Turned Pretty season three, only one Taylor Swift song, You're Losing Me has been featured till now. It was featured in the first episode of the season when Belly found out Jeremiah had cheated on her.

When Variety asked Jenny Han, author of The Summer I Turned Pretty books, co-showrunner and co-executive producer of the show, who directed the latest episode, why only one song has been featured this season, she said,

"I think I’ll say, I guess… keep watching."

While Han doesn't give a concrete reply, her answer does sound cryptic. This could be a hint that future episodes will have Taylor Swift songs, or perhaps she meant to say that the season's storyline doesn't match with a Taylor Swift song. If the latter is the truth, it'll be a sad moment for fans who are team Conrad, since the general speculation suggests that the best Taylor Swift songs are played when he's with Belly.

Han has not confirmed anything yet, but her answer might make some fans worry about the show's future. In the books, Belly ended up with Conrad, but the show can give us a different ending. Hence, no one really knows what might happen, whether Belly will choose Jeremiah or Conrad, or none of them, and just be single for a while.
