A week-long wait for Conrad's POV in The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 and Jenny Han's directorial debut delivered some of the most iconic scenes for the show, making the wait worth every second. The fourth episode of Season 3 ended on Conrad's self-control being constantly tested by his yearning for Belly, making fans excited for this week's episode.

The fifth episode of The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 was Jenny Han's directorial debut and one of the longest episodes for the series so far. Every single second where Conrad has to control and remind himself that it's his brother that Belly is marrying and not him is filled with desperation and yearning.

Apart from all the yearning and desperation, the episode also gave us an explanation for one of Conrad's weakest moments in the second season of the show.

Read on to find out what, or if you haven't watched the latest episode yet, this is the point of no return. Reader's discretion is advised.

The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 explains Conrad's weakest moment in the motel

Conrad in Season 2 of The Summer I Turned Pretty was not a great look. It is a big reason why there is a Team Jeremiah vs Team Conrad debate all over your feeds to begin with.

Belly saying

"This is 100% your look, Connie baby!"

might have gone viral all over the internet, but Conrad was not at his best in the second season; we're all mature enough to accept that.

However, considering his mom just died, there was a lot that his audience could understand. Forgetting Belly's corsage or not being able to stay or focus at her prom are all actions we can justify because he was deeply troubled after his mom's health took a turn for the worse.

But one moment in the motel in Season 2, where Conrad belittles and takes back his declaration of feelings for Belly, saying once again that he didn't mean it, is an action that no Team Conrad supporter could ever explain, no matter how hard they tried.

It turns out, however, that The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 is secretly (very vocally) Team Conrad, as it gives us a look into Conrad's POV and explains a lot that went through Connie's mind after he confessed his feelings out loud in that dark room.

Conrad initially agreed to tell Belly the truth when Jeremiah pushed him to do it for his sake, so that he could finally know if Belly wanted to be with him despite knowing Conrad still loved her. He tells Conrad to tell Belly the truth for all three of their sakes. Conrad agrees to do so, very reluctantly, and even manages to confess his feelings in the dark, knowing that she can hear him.

However, the next morning, he wakes up and tells her that he didn't mean it and that they can just be friends, and it's all good. It was a heartbreaking moment for both Belly and the fans. For Belly, however, it went on to substantiate Conrad as an emotionally unavailable partner who always pushed her away. She says in the voiceover:

"I can’t even be mad at him because this is who he is. This is who he’s always been. He never lied about that. He gives, and then he takes away. So I release you, Conrad Fisher. I evict you from my heart."

The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 gives us a look into Conrad's mind after he confessed, revealing that he made a promise to his mother on her deathbed, a promise he intended to keep. She asked him to always take care of his little brother, to always be the best brother he could be to Jeremiah.

Conrad has a chance to take over the voiceover spot in The Summer I Turned Pretty, Season 3, Episode 5. The episode gives a lot of insight into his conflicting feelings and the constant state of battle he is in inside his head. He also reveals that he didn't sleep a wink that night and decided that the way to keep his promise to his mother was to let her go and walk away from that triangle- to let Belly and Jeremiah live their best lives by staying away.

If there's anything that can justify telling someone I didn't mean it when I said I still have feelings for you, it's a promise you made to your mother in her last moments to take care of your little brother.
