In Jenny Han's The Summer I Turned Pretty, summers are never simple, and Cousins Beach becomes the epicenter of every emotional earthquake that Belly Conklin experiences. The series follows Belly as she grows from a girl teetering between childhood and a young woman in adulthood, learning how to navigate love, loss, and her different feelings for the two Fisher brothers, Jeremiah and Conrad.
The messy love triangle is the center of the show as Belly is burdened with making a choice between them both. On one hand, Conrad is her first love, the brooding, bold romance that even fans root for, and on the other hand, there's Jeremiah, who has had feelings for Belly for a long time and has been there for her when Conrad hasn't.
As the series progresses towards its finale, fan wars over both guys have been flooding social media. With its ongoing third-season plot, the question fans have been looking at since the first season is finally about to get answered: Who will Belly end up choosing?
Fans who have read the book may already know the answer. The show is based on Han's eponymous novel series, but as is the case with most adaptations, The Summer I Turned Pretty, as a show, takes a few creative liberties. Here's who Belly ends up with in the novel We’ll Always Have Summer, and what Jenny Han has said about the finale.

Who does Belly end up with in The Summer I Turned Pretty books?

In We’ll Always Have Summer, Belly agrees to marry Jeremiah before the wedding implodes under Conrad's confession, Belly's unresolved feelings, and a collapse of the ceremony for everyone involved. She then moves to Spain and takes her time there. While she's away, she and Conrad communicate through letters over the years. In more ways than one, they keep in touch as they grow up to be different people on different paths.
The books don't explore how their relationship reconnects and instead launch us straight into the epilogue, where Belly is 23 and she's getting married to Conrad at Cousins Beach. Jeremiah also attends the wedding and brings a date as well. Everything ends on a happy note, and Conrad tells Belly as he carries her into the ocean,
“I go wherever you go.”
What has Jenny Han said about The Summer I Turned Pretty's finale?

Although the show is expected to be loyal to the books, Jenny Han has warned fans that there will be some changes to the finale. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight about the ending of the show, the author has said,
"There are surprises. And there are things that aren't exactly like the books."
Han has also opened up about wanting to explore the ending of the show with an open mind. Speaking to Elite Daily about how she may shake things around and go for a different ending, she said,
“I always knew how I wanted to end the books. But with the show, I went into it with an open mind. People will be like, ‘Why are you changing that? That was working well!’ But to me, it could always be better. That’s how I approach everything, so naturally I was going into this story feeling like I wanted to make it even better and try new things.”
The third season of The Summer I Turned Pretty now has two more episodes left, which will release on September 10 and 17, respectively. All the episodes and previous seasons of the show are available to stream on Prime Video.
