The demands for a Supernatural reboot have never been as high as they've been since the mini-reunion for the stars on the set of The Boys. The show premiered in 2005 and ran for 15 very exciting years, wrapping up the final season right around the time COVID hit.
The show recently accomplished a new feat, as it has been twenty years since the pilot premiered. Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, and Misha Collins, on their "The Road So Far...The Road Ahead" tour, a convention dedicated to Supernatural, recently sat down for a conversation with TV Insider to talk about the show's legacy, among a lot of other things, including what a reboot could look like for the show.
Supernatural stars talk about a great reboot idea for the CW show

When talking about the legacy of the cult show Supernatural, the stars joked about the different formats that the show could be revived into, from a puppet show or anime to marionettes, before shifting to an actual consideration.
Padalecki talked about how the seasons used to be 20-25 episodes long back in the day, and if the show were rebooted now, they probably wouldn't have it in them to do such long seasons:
"We’re all a lot older than we were 20 years ago. I don’t know if I have 22 episodes of Supernatural in me. I think a limited series would be great."
Jensen Ackles talked about the tone of the show and how it used to be. He explained how changing it now would be a disservice to the integrity of the show. Additionally, he talked about how Supernatural being on broadcast TV instead of a streamer made a huge difference in terms of how much they could experiment or push the envelope:
"I’ve thought about this because we’ve been asked what would the show have looked like had it been on a streamer. And it would’ve been different. It would’ve been a little more R-rated. But part of me feels like, because of what we did for so long and what the tone is, I feel like changing that now might be doing it a disservice. I could see the benefit in keeping it like a broadcast show."
Collins revealed that he also asked the creator, Eric Kripke, what his idea of a reboot would look like:
"I asked Eric Kripke, 'If you ever did a reboot of Supernatural, what do you think it would be?' And he said he would want it to be as horrifying as possible."
Ackles hilariously added that Kripke did actually do it:
"He’s doing that. It’s called The Boys!"
Nevertheless, at the end of the day, the stars continue to be awestruck and full of gratitude for the love that fans have for the show, as Collins revealed:
"At times, it feels like we see each other more than our family —we are a surrogate family for one another. But there’s also this extended Supernatural community that functions like a family. A dysfunctional one, but people really do take care of each other."
To which Ackles added:
"Because we have so much history together, and we have a 20-year relationship and friendship, we get to pop into these different cities... We get to come together, put on a show for the people that all have a common love for Supernatural, and it is just this little family reunion that happens every few weeks in different cities around the country."
