Hulu's upcoming true crime docuseries, The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox, will follow the events of the 2007 case where Amanda Knox, an exchange student in Italy, was wrongfully incarcerated for the murder of a fellow exchange student, Meredith Kercher.

Knox was sentenced to four years of imprisonment for the murder of Kercher, with whom she shared a flat in Perugia. However, Amanda Knox was definitively acquitted by the Italian Supreme Court of Cassation in 2015. Almost two decades after her wrongful imprisonment, Amanda Knox is now an American author, activist, and journalist, and actively trying to reclaim her life.

The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox is created by K.J. Steinberg, who is also one of the executive producers on the miniseries, alongside Knox and Monica Lewinsky.

Releasing on Hulu on August 20, the eight-part miniseries will follow Knox's (who was just 20 years old when she was wrongfully imprisoned) struggle to clear her name and the toll it took on her mental health and life.

The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox has finally landed a release date on Disney and Hulu. The eight-part miniseries will debut with a double-episode feature on both Disney and Hulu on Wednesday, August 20, 2025.

The remaining six episodes will be released weekly every Wednesday, with the season finale on October 1, 2025.

"The TV show is inspired by the story of how Amanda Knox was wrongfully convicted for the tragic murder of her roommate, and her 15-year odyssey to set herself free.''

The Hulu original will follow the story of Amanda Knox, who was wrongfully imprisoned for the murder of her roommate, Meredith Kercher. While Knox was eventually sentenced to four years in prison, she was later acquitted of the murder charges. The docu-series will follow the meticulous process that ruled Knox's life for fifteen years.

Each episode of The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox will feature the investigation, meticulous forensic examinations, and the court trial clouded by public opinion. The docuseries will also raise questions about public reaction and problematic media coverage that painted Amanda Knox as the culprit. Lastly, the true crime original will investigate how an innocent student reclaimed her life after being falsely accused in a murder investigation.

The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox is led by Tell Me Lies and Nine Perfect Strangers fame Grace Van Patten, who will play the character of Amanda Knox, alongside Apple TV's Bad Sisters star Sharon Horgan, who will play the character of Edda Mellas, Amanda's mother.

The supporting cast for the docuseries includes John Hoogenakker (Jack Ryan) as Curt Knox, Roberta Mattei (Never Too Late) as Monica Napoleoni, Giuseppe De Domenico (Bang Bang Baby) as Raffaele Sollecito, and Francesco Acquaroli (Fargo) as Giuliano Mignini.
