The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox is an upcoming series headlined by Tell Me Lies star Grace Van Patten as Amanda Knox. For those unaware, Amanda Knox is an American activist whose life took a turn for the worse when her British roommate, Meredith Kercher, was found murdered in Perugia, Italy, in 2007. Knox and her Italian romantic partner, Raffaele Sollecito, were initially charged by the police.
The first two episodes of the miniseries will be released on August 20, 2025, with subsequent episodes streaming weekly. It must be noted that Amanda Knox and her spouse, Chris Robinson, are involved in The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox as producers. The synopsis for the series reads:
"A limited series inspired by the story of how Amanda Knox was wrongfully convicted for the tragic murder of her roommate, Meredith Kercher, and her journey to set herself free. The series stars Grace Van Patten, Sharon Horgan, John Hoogenakker, Francesco Acquaroli, Giuseppe De Domenico and Roberta Mattei."
What is The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox about, and what happened to Meredith Kercher?
As mentioned before, British exchange student Meredith Kercher was murdered on November 1, 2007, at Via della Pergola 7 in Perugia, Italy. Apart from Kercher, three other women stayed there: Laura Mezzetti, Filomena Romanelli, and Amanda Knox. None of them were home on the night of November 1, as it was a holiday.
Knox stayed at Sollecito’s flat that night and returned the next morning, showering in the bathroom she shared with Kercher. But what tipped her off was the fecal matter in the toilet used by Romanelli and Mezzetti, located inside their shared bathroom. Knox went back to Raffaele Sollecito’s place and later returned to Via della Pergola 7. It was Sollecito who noticed the broken window in Romanelli’s bedroom.
After failing to open Kercher’s door, Sollecito called his sister, who was part of the Carabinieri (an Italian law enforcement agency). On her advice, he dialed the 112 emergency number. Meanwhile, Amanda Knox called Filomena Romanelli, who returned promptly. Romanelli asked the police officers to force open Kercher’s room, but they initially refused.
It was her male friend who opened the door, and they found Meredith Kercher’s body on the floor, covered by a sheet. Detective Superintendent Monica Napoleoni believed the crime scene had been staged to look like a break-in. She arrested Knox and Sollecito on November 6, 2007.
The two were held responsible even after Rudy Guede was identified and apprehended in Germany on November 20, 2007. Despite forensic evidence pointing to Guede, Knox and Sollecito were found guilty in January 2009. It wasn’t until October 2011 that they were acquitted of Kercher’s murder.
Knox has since spoken about her traumatic experience of being falsely accused and publicly shamed. The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox chronicles this harrowing period of her life. Recently, she revealed the one scene in the miniseries that made her emotional.
Which scene from The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox made Amanda Knox emotional?
Vanity Fair published an interview with Amanda Knox on July 30, 2025, as she promoted the upcoming Hulu series The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox, which she is producing. She discussed her experience on set, revealing that she remained composed for most of the shoot—except during one particular moment: the interrogation scene.
“I did not lose my shit on set except for that time. We spent two 10-hour days doing this scene from all the different angles over and over and over again. I feel a deep sense of responsibility to get that right, so that the next person who is wrongly accused and ends up falsely confessing feels like people are more willing to believe them … I just remember sobbing.”
As mentioned earlier, the first two episodes of The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox will be released together on August 20, 2025. The rest of the series will be made available weekly until October 1, 2025.
