The Vampire Diaries, even after a decade of its release, has still been a fan favorite of many among those who enjoy vampire dramas. Created by Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec, the TV series features Paul Wesley, Ian Somerhalder, and Nina Dobrev in the main cast.
The series is adapted from the novel The Vampire Diaries written by L.J. Smith. The story of the series revolved around Elena Gilbert, a character played by Nina Dobrev, who is a normal school-going human. However, her world turns upside down after she meets Stefan Salvatore, a character played by Paul Wesley, with whom she falls in love without knowing he's a vampire. The story also follows Elena's friend, Bonnie, who is a witch, and Stefan's brother, Damon, played by Ian Somerhalder, whom Elena later falls in love with.
The teen show also involves doppelgängers, witches, werewolves, and centuries-old family feuds, all mixed in a combination of past and present timelines. Season 6 witnesses a bond forming between Damon and Bonnie, who are trapped in 1994.
In the real world, Elena asks Alaric to remove the memories of Damon, as she found it very hard to live with. After removing the memories, when Alaric asks Elena who Damon is, she calls him a 'monster,' forgetting every good moment they spent together. The season also shows a magic-free border around Mystic Falls that can harm vampires.
However, good news for the Damon fans, as he returns in Vampire Diaries Season 6 Episode 6. Let's have a complete Vampire Diaries Season 6 Episode 6 recap to know what happens in the episode.
The Vampire Diaries Season 6 Episode 6 recap
Episode 6 of The Vampire Diaries season 6 starts with Damon returning to real life, hoping to meet Elena. When Stefan asks Damon how he made it back, he says:
"Long story. big flashes of light. two decades' worth of jet lag. I will explain all of my adventures in that flannel landscape, but first there's someone I gotta go see (referring to Elena)."
Damon also added that Bonnie had to give up her chance of coming back, leaving her alone in the prison world.
While Damon was excited to meet Elena, he learned from his brother, Stefan, that Elena had erased her memory of him. He still insisted on meeting her. Elena, on the other hand, didn't want to meet him, calling him a "psychotic killer." The two finally meet after Elena opens the door.
While Damon's return was happy news for Stefan, the episode shows Jeremy, Elena's brother and Bonnie's love interest, finally accepting that Bonnie is not returning.
Damon, Enzo, and Alaric all try to cross the dangerous border when Tripp attacks them, but Stefan saves Damon and Enzo. Alaric, on the other hand, gets hurt and becomes a human again after Jo uses medicine to save him. The news was broken to Elena by Caroline in the dialogue:
"All the magic was stripped away, but Joe saved him just before… died. Alaric's not a vampire anymore, Elena. He's a human.
This also creates a complication for Elena's memories, because with Alaric now human, he can't bring back her memories of Damon, even if she wants to.
