One fan, @jeffreysoble5369, wrote,

"Billy was the voice of a generation. So many of us who grew up in the 70’s and 80’s can look at so many of his songs and say, “yeah that’s about me and my life experience”. And the show he use to put on back then, WOW! The energy and presence he had on stage was incredible especially for a guy that sat at a piano for the majority of 2 1/2 hours. I can’t wait for this documentary!"

This shows the effect and influence Joel's music has had on his fans and still does. The fact that the documentary is largely his narration of events is what makes it even more engaging.

Another user, @TowGunner, summed up their feelings about the maestro thus:

"I saw Billy in concert 7x. Waited on line for 17 hours to get his Millennium CD signed at Tower Records. Billy exemplifies Americana."

Throughout time, musicians have been inspired by other musicians and have inspired others similarly. Billy Joel has done the same. As a fan (@rondabaldbastid3045) expressed,

"Growing up on Long Island, he was my biggest music influence. I was called Billy Joel Jr in high school (killed the middle C on the chorus Steinway playing Angry Young Man lol) this is going to be amazing"

More about Billy Joel

Born on 9th May 1949, as William Martin Joel, Billy was first inspired to start his career in music by the Beatles' performance on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1964. As Billy told CBS News,

"That one performance changed my life ... Up to that moment I'd never considered playing rock as a career. And when I saw four guys who didn't look like they'd come out of the Hollywood star mill, who played their own songs and instruments, and especially because you could see this look in John Lennon's face -- and he looked like he was always saying: 'F--- you!' -- I said: 'I know these guys, I can relate to these guys, I am these guys.' This is what I'm going to do -- play in a rock band'."

Billy Joel began his musical career at the age of sixteen, when he joined the band Echoes, which later became the Lost Souls. The Beatles weren't his only inspiration when it came to music. In the Billy Joel: And So It Goes trailer, he talks about the history of his career, saying,

"My own history as a musician started with me hearing classical music."

He left the band and joined The Hassles in 1967. Billy Joel: And So It Goes follows the details of his life as he created music with his band, then later as a solo artist, and all the songs that made him the musician he is today.

Billy Joel: And So It Goes, part one is going to be released on 18th July 2025, and part two will be released on 25th July 2025 on HBO Max.
