Carol's life in and before The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, where she was fighting the living and the dead just for survival, didn't leave her with much of a love life. Pair that with her history of an abusive relationship and unending heartbreak, and it's been a while since we've seen Melissa McBride's Carol interested in anybody. So, it was quite a wonderful surprise when the latest episode featured Carol kissing Eduardo Noriega's Antonio.

The attraction between the two had been developing for some while since the third season's premiere, so to watch it build up to this point was an intense experience, especially because we're finally beating all the Carol and Daryl rumors for good. Melissa McBride, in a recent conversation with Entertainment Weekly, talks about the kiss and calls it sweet, but also addresses some doubts that it might bring up for her character on The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon.

The recent episode of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon finally had the climax to an arc that had been rising through the third season. Carol and Antonio have had a clear attraction developing between them, and the fact that Carol got to know him in his environment, surrounded by everything that defines him.

"Do you know what I love? I love that she is in his space in this village that is, for the most part, kind of unscathed from what's happening in the world. She's in his space, so she's experiencing him, and you can tell a lot about someone by their stuff. The pictures and posters on the wall, the cameras, the film reels, the TV."

Their attraction might have been initially fueled by their personal traumas, but The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon does a great job of fleshing out these characters and having them get to know each other in a way that is more than just the trauma that they share.

"That's probably the first time in a very long time she's been informed that much about someone by seeing someone in their own element. He’s such a curiosity to her and a mystery and a just an interesting man. I like that aspect that I get to encounter."

So, even though it has been a while for Melissa McBride's Carol to be romantically involved with anybody, it sure is a nice change. However, the fact that the kiss happens in a moment with the stakes higher than they've ever been does make it appear as an in-the-moment thing rather than a build-up.

"It has been a while. He's just grateful, and then there's a surge. She’s got to go, and she's got to get Roberto out of there, and she's wondering what to do with this. The stakes are so high, and will she ever see him again? It's really sweet, too."

McBride addresses this aspect of the kiss on The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, explaining that the fact that Carol was going to be sneaking Antonio's son out of the town and the two might never see each other again might lead her to have some doubts about the meaning of the kiss.

"What does this kiss mean? She may be wondering about that kiss. It’s from a man who's desperate to save his son, and does that have something to do with this? She's on her way to get him out and into safety, and will he do anything to save his child? Is that part of it?"

Carol might find herself doubting the meaning behind the kiss that she shares with Antonio since they are in a very vulnerable and adrenaline-filled moment. But the bond that the two share and the build-up of their connection have been exceptionally genuine, so it would be interesting to explore this more if they ever do end up meeting again on The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon.
