Comparing the RT scores for The Walking Dead: Dead City Seasons 1 & 2
While The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2 will premiere on May 4, 2025, the early reviews are in, with critics already rating the first episode on Rotten Tomatoes.
With a total of 57 reviews, Season 1 currently holds a score of 80% on RT, which is above average. Season 2 has garnered only six reviews so far, resulting in an aggregate rating of 83%, a 3% increase from its predecessor as of now.
While The Walking Dead: Dead City is currently seeing a rating increase for Season 2, it is too early to conclude that it signifies an improvement. Since Season 2 will feature many new characters and familiar faces charting new territories, expectations are certainly high for the sophomore season.
In addition, Season 2 stars Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan have heavily promoted the upcoming season at the Mets game, the Empire State Building and, most recently, at the Paley Museum with a special press conference.
Considering the early reviews and the cast's expectations, Season 2 may surpass its predecessors, securing the franchise's future.
What can you expect from The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2?
According to AMC, the official synopsis for The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2 reads as follows:
''In the growing war for control of New York City, Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Morgan) find themselves trapped on opposite sides. As their paths intertwine, they come to see that the way out for both is more complicated and harrowing than they ever imagined.''
The shocking Season 1 finale saw Maggie trade Negan for her son to the Dama. The upcoming season will pick up six months after the harrowing events of the Season 1 finale, where Negan will try his best to break free from the Dama's control.
Season 2 will also feature some new cast members, including Kim Coates as Bruegel and Dascha Polanco as Lucia Narvaez.
Maggie and Negan's relationship is likely to undergo a shift in the sophomore season, following the former's betrayal. Talking with Collider, Morgan teased his character's future for Season 2:
''I feel like Negan's in trouble. I think it's going to be the most vulnerable that we get to see him. Maybe ever. I've seen him and he's in deep shit and he has to figure a way out of it.''
In addition, the Dama's dangerous empire will also be in the spotlight in the upcoming season, and new unlikely alliances will be formed, as executive producer Scott Gimple teased to Collider:
''Season 2 is a reset of Season 1, because all these alliances shift around, and people find themselves on very different sides for reasons they didn't expect.''
The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2 will premiere on AMC and AMC+ on May 4, 2025.
