The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2 wrapped on June 22, 2025, with its episode 8 titled, 'If History Were a Conflagration.' The episode ended on a cliffhanger with two shocking deaths and circumstances that altered the power dynamics of Manhattan.
Here is a short recap of what happened in the finale of Dead City Season 2.
In Season 2, Negan brutally killed Bruegel while Maggie stabbed Negan to save Perlie. Elsewhere, Ginny collapsed from the infection that she got during the walker attack in Episode 5. Maggie, who was determined to kill Negan (as per the Dama's order), spared him when he saw his concern for Ginny. The season ended on a cliffhanger with the New Babylon forces marching through the streets of Manhattan, Maggie and Negan partnering up in a shaky alliance, while the Dama plans her next move.
Even though The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 3 is not confirmed yet, its unresolved storylines and character arc strongly suggest a possibility of renewal. However, it must tackle these three pressing questions in the upcoming season.

3 major questions that The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2 must address
1)Where is the Croat-and is he an ally, enemy, or something in between?
The one thing that The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2 finale episode lacked was the absence of the Croat. Season 2 left the Croat in a strange gray zone. From plotting deadly plans with the Dama to helping Maggie find Hershel, the Croat's arc was the finest this season, but his absence in the finale was a letdown. The show offered no closure or insight into where he was headed or what his intentions are now.
In the penultimate episode of The Walking Dead: Dead City, we learned about his tragic past and how the Dama manipulated him. Is he heading towards his homeland, Croatia? Is he gunning for redemption? Leaving out a major character from the series finale was quite disappointing, and Season 3 needs to answer this burning question before it delves into any other plot.
2) Will Negan's family finally re-enter the picture, and what's next for Negan and Maggie?
Negan's attachment to his present wife, Annie, and son Joshua has been established from the beginning of The Walking Dead: Dead City. In several circumstances, the Dama blackmailed him by using his family's safety/whereabouts and work for her.
In The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2, Episode 6, Negan had a chance to return to Tennessee to his family after the Dama was supposedly dead. However, he made up his mind to send them back because Manhattan was no less than a warzone, and he wanted to keep them safe. Though they briefly returned as hallucinations this season, their physical absence in the finale felt deliberate.
The show has made it quite clear that Negan's survivalist brutality is a byproduct of the people he is trying to protect. Now that Ginny is gone, the emotional tether to his wife and child will either save him or push him over the edge in the upcoming season.
The upcoming season also needs to clear the dynamics between Negan and Maggie. After an uneasy season of misunderstandings, betrayals, and loss, Negan and Maggie have finally reunited, and it looks like they are all set to partner up for their survival in Manhattan against the Dama and the New Babylon Federation.
3) What are the New Babylon Federation and the Dama's next moves?
It was quite unexpected to see New Babylon forces marching in the war-torn city of Manhattan at the end of the season finale. Throughout the season, the viewers thought that the New Babylon forces could never win against the mighty Dama and the Croat alliance, but internal politics destroyed the power that once ruled Manhattan.
The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 3 must reveal further details about their expedition led by Governor Byrd — their motives and their role. Are they liberators, occupiers, or something worse? And who is Governor Byrd? — another tyrant in making or a genuine threat to Negan and Maggie's uneasy alliance.
Another pivotal question that Season 3 must unravel is how the Dama survived the fire that the Croat thought killed her. Additionally, what is the Dama planning to do next, now that she is powerless? Will she continue to manipulate Hershel, making her a pawn like the Croat to fulfill her desires?
