The Walking Dead: Dead City is renewed for Season 3 at AMC

In exciting news for The Walking Dead franchise, Dead City has been renewed for another season, and Seth Hoffman is taking over for Eli Jorné as showrunner. Hoffman is a seasoned veteran when it comes to this franchise, as the credits to his name include 10 episodes in the original series in Seasons 4-6, making it incredibly exciting that he's taking over for Season 3. Here's what he said about his position in a statement:
"I’m excited to have the chance to dive back into The Walking Dead universe and work to deliver another dynamic season’s worth of stories to this epic franchise. It’s a true honor to chart out the next chapter for Maggie and Negan’s iconic adventures in Dead City. Lauren, Jeffrey and Scott [Gimple] are incredible creative partners and I’m thrilled to collaborate with them to bring this story to life."
Additionally, filming for the fight for Manhattan in The Walking Dead: Dead City is all set to begin in the fall in Boston. Even though Negan and Maggie started out as enemies, which went as far as Maggie stabbing him in the back (not metaphorically), by the end of The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2, they ended up on the same side of the fight.
It appears Maggie is finally going to evolve from the anger and hate she's holding against Negan and try to figure out a way to coexist in a future where civilization stands a chance to return. Scott M. Gimple, executive producer, revealed such plans for the third season in a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter:
"This has been a very long story. It’s been years and years that we’ve seen Maggie and Negan in this cycle. Maggie has been completely and totally justified in her hate and anger and trauma, but for the audience, we’ve been watching her live with that for so long. It’s been eight years [of real time], and I want to see Maggie surmount this thing and evolve from it."

Maggie has found a resolution with Negan, but her son Hershel is not on the same track. By the end of the second season, he has decided to follow his own path and stick with the Dama. The third season ought to explore how Maggie letting Hershel go and not killing Negan will affect their relationship. This third season is going to be an entirely new zone for The Walking Dead: Dead City, as explained by Gimple:
"The last two seasons featured a dynamic that’s now concluded [with Maggie and Negan finding closure]. Now, it’s time to show you something different."
The pair has put aside their differences and are moving towards a resolution and healing, but it doesn't mean that the problems in Manhattan are over. As they try and build a safer sanctuary, chaos knocks at their door, and they will be forced to confront their old wounds and their dark past.
