Mike White, the man who came up with the hit show on HBO called The White Lotus, has officially said that the third season will start airing on February 16, 2025. This new part of the show will be "supersized," bigger and better than ever, with longer episodes, while still keeping that sharp look at society.

When he talked to Entertainment Weekly, Mike couldn't help but get excited about it, saying:

"Longer, bigger, crazier."

This fits The White Lotus' history of exploring social ideas in fancy settings.

So, The White Lotus Season 3 kicked off filming in Thailand back in February 2024, and it's going to be another eight episodes of pure drama.

White, the creator, let us in on the fact that this season is going into deeper topics like death, the spiritual side of the East, and how our brains work, all with a bit of a wink and a nudge to make us think about it differently.

The White Lotus' "supersized" look into death and spirituality

Mike White has put his heart into creating The White Lotus, using it to dig into systemic issues in society with a dose of sarcasm and drama that keeps you hooked. Now, he's saying that season three is going to be even more intense, with a story about death and Eastern religion.

As he explained in an earlier interview,

“The first season highlighted money, the second season explored sex, and the third season will be a satirical look at death and spirituality.”

The themes in this show are set to play out against the scenery of Thailand, which acts like a big, beautiful canvas for the characters' lives. The landscapes will be telling their own story, alongside the people in the show.

This new season keeps that mysterious feeling we all know and love. It's going to start with someone passing away, which is the show's signature move.

White said that starting with a death like that has become a key part of the show:

“It clearly drives interest. People want to know how it all ends.”

This approach gets people interested in the show, and Mike White makes sure that the characters grow and the stories have a lot of feelings to them.

HBO's EVP of Programming, Francesca Orsi, talked up White's plan for The White Lotus, saying he's got a talent for jokes, seriousness, and social commentary.

Orsi said, getting us pumped for the new episodes coming up:

“He’s continued to reach new heights with each season.”

Mike White’s reflects on The White Lotus’ success

Mike White's journey through Hollywood has been as intriguing as the stories he tells. He started out writing for Freaks and Geeks, a show that had a special kind of charm, and went on to write the super-fun movie School of Rock, which a lot of people still love today.

But it was The White Lotus that put him on the map. He hit the jackpot with that one, winning Emmys left and right for writing, directing, and more. This show is not just about people and their problems, it also points out the bigger picture of life, like who's got the power and who thinks they're better than everyone else.

The first season was about a fancy resort in Hawaii, showing how different classes of people act when they're in the same place. And it was eye-opening. Then season two took us to Sicily and talked about relationships in a way that was juicy yet thought-provoking. It's like watching a soap opera but smarter.

Back in an interview with NPR in 2022, Mike was talking about how shocked he was that The White Lotus did so well:

“I’ve been a surfer in the ocean for 25 years, and suddenly caught a wave.”

Good news for all you die-hard fans out there! Season 3 of The White Lotus is set for another delightful serving of laughs, suspense, and heartfelt moments, keeping it right up there as one of the shows everyone's talking about.

Mark your calendars for February 16, 2025, because that's when you can start binge-watching! It'll be airing on HBO, and streaming on Sky and Now TV.
