The White Lotus took no time in becoming one of HBO’s most popular shows. Each season takes us to a new luxurious resort where mess awaits the rich guests and morally questionable staff. The series is now gearing up for Season 4 after its hit runs in Hawaii and Sicily. It will reportedly be set in France's Paris and the stunning French Riviera.

The series was officially renewed in January 2025. Fans are already curious to know about which familiar faces might make a comeback. Among those fans are wondering about most is Sydney Sweeney. She played Olivia Mossbacher in Season 1. So is Sydney Sweeney returning to The White Lotus Season 4?

Well, as of now, there’s no official confirmation. Creator Mike White has expressed his wish to bring her back but there’s a catch. She’s become one of Hollywood’s biggest stars since her time on the show. Between Euphoria, Anyone But You, and Immaculate, she’s everywhere. That’s why her possible return to The White Lotus is exciting but also uncertain. Let’s get deeper into what we know about her character and what Mike White himself has said about her.

The White Lotus: What Mike White said about Sydney Sweeney's return

Sydney Sweeney played Olivia Mossbacher in Season 1 of The White Lotus. She portrayed a sarcastic and sharp tongued college student vacationing in Hawaii with her wealthy family. Olivia’s character is all about privilege, intelligence, and manipulation. It made the show so addictive. Her scenes were filled with tension, humor, and that trademark The White Lotus awkwardness that keeps you glued to the screen. Fans still remember her deadpan looks and sly remarks. That's part of why people have been asking if she’ll ever come back to the show.

The Christy star has since become very popular and also is busy with multiple projects. Mike White, the showrunner, hence told Variety that that they might not be able to afford her now.

"I don’t know if we could afford her now. As of now, it doesn’t look like that’s gonna happen."

He also said:

“There was just something very unaffected by her. She was very likable. And I thought that that would be helpful because the part is so unlikable on the page. Then in editing, you realize she just pops on-screen. She’s obviously lovely in person and photogenic. But my eyes kept going to her, no matter who’s in the scene with her. That’s natural screen magnetism that is hard to quantify. She just has that. I don’t know what makes somebody a star, but there is something about her that just is."

The White Lotus might be heading in a new direction with its French setting. But Mike White’s words show how much he values Sydney’s talent. Even if Olivia doesn’t return for Season 4, it’s clear her role in the first season left a lasting mark on the show. Who knows, maybe one day we’ll see her stroll into another luxury resort, coffee in hand and sarcasm intact. Until then, The White Lotus Season 4 promises to keep the drama, luxury, and mishaps coming.
