HBO series The White Lotus Season 4 will be set in France, as has been confirmed by HBO CEO Casey Bloys. The confirmation came after there were speculations and reports that the next season would be in a high-end hotel somewhere in France, and most probably in the French Riviera.

Even though the specific city and hotel names have not been officially decided, Mike White, the creator of the show, and HBO have expressed interest in attempting this new location for the popular anthology series. The last three seasons have traveled to Hawaii, Italy, and Thailand, all at extravagant resorts.

Season 4 maintains the trend of relocating the story to a new and unique location, this time in Europe, with France being affirmed again as the destination of choice for the setting of the story.

Official Announcement and setting information

Chairman and CEO of HBO and HBO Max Content Casey Bloys affirmed that The White Lotus Season 4 is going to be set in France. He informed that the specific city and additional details are yet to be decided, but definitely pointed out France as the destination.

Previously, in 2025, there were reports from production insiders stating that the award-winning creator Mike White and HBO had chosen France as the backdrop for the next season.

The particular hotel has yet to be publicly identified, but speculation runs high among prominent luxury resorts, particularly the renowned Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat on the Côte d'Azur, famous for its past and its connection to Hollywood.

Earlier, The White Lotus had collaborated with the Four Seasons hotel chain for its hotel settings. France has Four Seasons resorts, such as the Hotel George V in Paris, the Megève resort in the French Alps, and perhaps Riviera resorts.

Sources underline, though, that the show conventionally employs several resorts within a season, and there could be more than one hotel in The White Lotus Season 4. Production details are still in their initial stages, with location hunting confirmed but not concluded.

The significance of the French setting in The White Lotus

The White Lotus Season 4 in France is a shift to a new European location after the show went to Italy in Season 2 and Thailand in Season 3. France provides diverse luxury hotels and diverse landscapes that vary from urban environments such as Paris to beach environments along the Riviera and even mountain resorts in the Alps.

The French Riviera, especially, is a good fit for the show's theme of luxury resorts with a rich cultural heritage and proximity to showy events such as the Cannes Film Festival. Mike White has said he wants to break away from the formerly ubiquitous "crashing waves against rocks" visual theme to something else, indicating a possible change in the show's look and feel.

Although the specific city or resort remains to be determined, France's diverse allure might provide new story opportunities while keeping the series' dark and dramatic tone. Rumors have surrounded possibilities like Megève in the French Alps or Paris' inner city; however, colder ski resort environments could be less probable based on White's dislike of cold climates.

Production context and future prospects

Production of The White Lotus Season 4 is set to begin in 2026, with HBO sponsoring the season after the success and commercial success of the prior ones. The series has received many Emmy nominations and wins, establishing it as a flagship anthology series for the network.

During the time of season three production, White had an interest in progressing the plot and broadening new perspectives under the series' murder mystery and dark comedy context.

Location scouting was held up but scheduled in early 2025, with a few European nations on the list before the choice of France. Bloys' statement verifies that the project continues ahead with France as the official location.

Mike White's recent visit to historical French hotels like the Hotel Negresco in Nice is a sign of active location scouting and investigation of possible shooting locations. The move to France is predicted to maintain the anthology's trend of uncovering fresh cultural and social dynamics through the prism of luxury hospitality.
