Hazbin Hotel Season 2 is soon approaching, and the creator has revealed something interesting about Alastor, the Radio Demon. Hazbin Hotel, the adult animated series created by Vivienne Medrano, was first launched on Prime Video in January 2024. The first season featured eight episodes, introducing audiences to the chaotic world of Hell, its Princess Charlie Morningstar, and her dream of opening her own hotel.

Now, with Hazbin Hotel Season 2 set to return, fans are eagerly awaiting new plotlines, especially around the mysterious character Alastor. According to Medrano, the next season will explore Alastor’s arc even more.

At San Diego Comic-Con 2025, during an interview with Collider, Amir Talai, the voice of Alastor, shared how Hazbin Hotel Season 2 brings new challenges and changes for his character.

Talai mentioned that the new episodes pushed him creatively. As he said to Collider,

“The singing was more challenging. It gave me more opportunities to let go,”

Vivienne Medrano then added her own thoughts about Alastor’s development in the upcoming season. She said,

“Season 2, we get into a lot of sides of Alastor. And I think in that way, you know, I think you had to kind of play around with his kind of default voice because he has a very default energy. And I feel like because there's a lot of different sides of him that we see in the season that probably led to…”

Talai jumped in to finish the idea by saying,

“Yeah, I wasn’t sure how much I was allowed to say. But yeah, it’s funny, because a lot of people in Season 1 were like, ‘How did you play all of the different colors of Alastor?’ And I was like, ‘Season 1, there weren’t that many colors.’ But Season 2, we get some more.”

This exploration of Alastor's character arc has been hinted at for some time. At the 2024 Comic-Con, as Collider has reported, Medrano had already teased that Alastor’s full story was something she had been developing for years. She had said to Collider,

“One of those characters is Alastor. I've had him for so long, and I've developed him as a character for so long that people kind of know his backstory.”

She also spoke about how Alastor’s design and concept evolved over time, saying,

“He started out a deer, just an animal, but he was evil. A cannibal deer, and then it turned into a cannibal magical deer, and then it was like an evil demon deer. They became the shapeshifter into the human form who also was a deer. Finally, he ended up being a demon who just looks kind of like a deer and has deer aspects because of a backstory I gave him.”

In Hazbin Hotel Season 2, Medrano confirmed that this backstory will finally become part of the show.

“Season 2 will canonize Alastor’s backstory,” she explained, offering fans the chance to fully understand where the Radio Demon came from.

She also talked about why the character continues to be such a fan favorite, saying,

“He was always kind of this trickster, kind of edgy. What you’d think of when you think of a high schooler’s character. He was able to maintain that. That’s why it’s so special that he’s so beloved, because he taps into that classic teenage girl, ‘This is the coolest character ever!’ I think he’s the most consistent.”

Talai shared that he had to adjust his voice acting for scenes showing an earlier version of Alastor in Hazbin Hotel Season 2. He said in the same interview,

“In Season 2, we get a sense of him before he’s figured that out. And I think that that was really interesting to explore… How much have I figured it out by this exact point? Is there a maturity to his presentation yet here? Or can I pull it back?"

Viewers won’t have to wait long to see these new sides of Alastor. While season one is already streaming on Prime Video, Hazbin Hotel Season 2 will be released on 29th October 2025, on Prime Video.
