Does Alex die at the end of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place Season 2? Details explored.

Wizards Beyond Waverly Place takes place 15 years after Wizards of Waverly Place and centers on Justin, Alex’s brother, who lives with his wife and two sons. His life changes when his sister Alex asks him to take care of Billie, a young wizard who needs training. In Wizards Beyond Waverly Place Season 2, viewers learn that Billie is actually Alex’s daughter.
While Alex only makes guest appearances on the show, she appears in the last four episodes of the latest season. In the finale, Morsus reveals that his son Damian can fulfill the prophecy because he can open the rift. However, his son has betrayed him for Alex. Meanwhile, Billie creates a portal, and as Alex begins to cry, her teardrop falls on Morsus’ locket, revealing a major secret. A flashback shows that Alex is Billie’s mom, and no one knew because Alex wiped everyone’s memories. When Justin’s son Milo unties the family with his powers, Alex apologizes to Billie, and they reconcile.
However, Alex has to sacrifice herself because the portal isn't closing. Morsus explains that it can only be closed from the other side, and even though Billie offers to close it, Alex refuses and enters the portal herself.
The episode ends on an emotional note as Alex promises Billie that they will find each other, then she runs into the portal and takes Morsus with her. Billie is left devastated, but Justin reassures her that they will find Alex.
Talking about his shocking finale, David Henrie tells TV Insider that it was “as big as it gets”. The seeming death of Alex Russo has not only affected the fans but also the actors, as Henrie admitted that many of the cast members were also emotional at the end of the Wizards Beyond Waverly Place Season 2 finale.
David Henrie mentioned,
“When you discover the easter egg, you’re going to know that there’s something bigger that needs to be answered in question. So, I hope to explore the easter egg. This season ends in probably the most cliffhanger season we’ve had in Wizards history. People are going to want answers to the questions that we ask,”
