The Pluribus creator Vince Gilligan is most commonly known for his two blockbuster creations, Breaking Bad and its spin-off Better Call Saul. However, before any of these shows existed, there was The X-Files, for which Vince wrote some of its best episodes.
The Gilligan universe might be growing with the new Apple TV show, and the creator might be foraying into a new genre, but he hasn't refrained from subtle callbacks to his previous groundbreaking works.

The X-Files reference in Pluribus that you definitely missed

Creator Vince Gilligan wanted to prove he wasn't a "one-trick pony" with his shift to an entirely new genre, when compared to Breaking Bad or Better Call Saul, in his new Apple TV show Pluribus. And prove he has.
He has also managed to completely bewilder his audience with the entirely new concept of the Apple TV show. Every single episode continues to bewilder fans, and even Gilligan has taken it upon himself not to disclose any meaning behind the show, leaving it up to the audience. Nevertheless, the audience is completely invested, and Pluribus continues to rake in high viewership with every episode.
In a recent conversation with The Independent, creator Vince Gilligan revealed that he had managed to sneak in an ode or two to his previous creations in the latest Apple TV show in the form of Easter eggs. He said:
"We've got Breaking Bad Easter eggs, for sure Better Call Saul. You gotta look quick, it happens fast, but there's at least one [The] X-Files Easter egg in episode one."
The X-Files easter egg was definitely a very blink-and-you-will-miss-it moment. The easter egg was hidden in just the first five minutes of the first episode, but it is one that was very easy to miss, and if you did, here's what you didn't notice.
In the first episode, the scientists who've picked up a secretly encrypted message being delivered to Earth from deep space, almost 600 light-years away, decide to take this message to their boss. As the camera pans from behind the laptop, it finds a bunch of scientists, a lot of them in fact, poring over this encrypted message. We also get a very brief look at some of the stickers on the back of the laptop.
The first sticker is a parody of the NASA logo with NERD written in place of NASA, and the second is a logo for the James Webb Space Telescope. The final sticker we get a look at is an alien face encircled by the words "I want to believe". The second X-Files movie (2008) was also titled I Want to Believe.
Since its premiere on November 7, Pluribus has released four episodes to date on its weekly release schedule, and the fifth episode is set to be released on November 28, 2025.
