Augustus Stonehurst, the creator of the ethically questionable project, LOIS (Long-Term Outcast Integration Study), is a crucial part of the storyline in Wednesday Season 2. When Augustus Stonehurst is first introduced in Wednesday Season 2, we see him at the medical facility of Willow Hill. An ailing man with a bird perched on his shoulders seemed to be as harmless as one could think of. However, his past is far from it.
Who was Augustus Stonehurst in Wednesday Season 2?
It would not be an understatement to say that Augustus Stonehurst was a crucial part of all the complications that we see in Willow Hill. In Wednesday Season 2, it is revealed that Augustus Stonehurst was once related to the Nevermore Academy. He was the science teacher at the school; however, unlike the outcasts at Nevermore Academy, he did not have any powers of his own.
Seeing the powers of the outcasts, his desire to get powers of his own rose, so he built a machine at Willow Hill to take the powers of the outcasts and transfer them to normies like himself. This experimental project is known as LOIS (Long-Term Outcast Integration Study). When he used his own daughter for the experiment, he was successful in transforming her into an avian.

However, the experiment failed on him, and it eventually took a massive toll on both his physical and mental health. After the experiment impacted him, he became a patient of Willow Hill himself. However, in Wednesday Season 2 Part 2, it is revealed that it was not Augustus Stonehurst’s creation but so much more than that. In Wednesday Season 2, Slurp’s real identity is revealed.
Slurp is actually Isaac Night, a brilliant student whose desire was to “slay the monster” inside his sister, Francoise. However, after his death, his diaries were stolen by Augustus Stonehurt, who then transformed the machine into something else completely to benefit himself instead of Francoise. In Wednesday Season 2, part 1, when Wednesday’s arrival at Willow Hill creates chaos and leads to the escape of all the prisoners, Slurp is also released.
Slurp then attacks Augustus Stonehurst and eats his brain, killing him in the process. Though Augustus Stonehurt dies in the first part of the second season, his significance still remains in the second part.
In his desire to gain powers like the outcasts, Augustus Stonehurst captured numerous outcasts and even signed their death certificates so that others would think that they were dead. This would lead him to experiment on these outcasts without any hindrance.
In Season 2, the chilling nature of his works, which was more of a legacy of exploitation, was later passed down to his own daughter, who continued his experiments, leaving a lasting impact.

Augustus Stonehurt’s end by the very person whose works he used for his personal gain serves as a twisted form of justice. He gets killed by Isaac Night, from whose diaries he stole the idea of the machine. Later, Judi is also killed by Isaac. Augustus Stonehurst in Wednesday Season 2 represented the danger of unchecked ambition.
The dark consequences of a normie trying to forcibly integrate into the world of outcasts by using the powers of the outcasts truly show the meticulous manner in which the creators of the series connected the storyline, leaving a stunning masterpiece.
