There have been rumors floating around about Big Little Lies season 3, as Zoë Kravitz, Laura Dern, and Shailene Woodley (three of the Monterey Five) were spotted together at a recent event.

To many viewers, it didn’t seem like a coincidence, especially with rumors of a new season already circulating at the network. After that, Reese Witherspoon spoke about this topic during her recent conversation with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show. She revealed that a new season is imminent and that the script is being written as we speak.

"We might be working on season 3," said Witherspoon.

After confirming that the third season is happening, the actress revealed some details about the current stage of the script, saying,

"Yeah, I mean, they're writing it."

While her comments don't offer any concrete update about the production schedule of Big Little Lies season 3, they're still promising to fans who have been eager to see the old gang back together. It seems like they are not the only ones looking forward to this reunion, since Witherspoon also shared a similar sentiment during her interview.

It's been nearly ten years since the first season of Big Little Lies arrived on streaming, and even after all this time, people look at it just as fondly as they did back then. It started as a miniseries with David E. Kelley serving as the creator and writer, and Canadian filmmaker Jean-Marc Vallée as the director, intending it to end with the first season.

Yet, it ended on a compelling cliffhanger. To resolve that mystery for the fans of this small-town drama, the cast returned for a second season with English filmmaker Andrea Arnold at the helm. Meryl Streep also became another welcome addition to the cast, fighting against the Monterey Five for the death of her son.

Since the beginning, the show has followed the five women as they forged a bond that strengthened their pursuit of justice. While the characters nurtured this connection, the off-screen stars seem to have done so too. Zoë Kravitz, Laura Dern, and Shailene Woodley were part of this cast, alongside Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon.

That's why, even years later, fans have been hoping to see these Californian women return to take us through another part of their lives in Big Little Lies season 3. Witherspoon echoed their feelings in her conversation with Jimmy Fallon. She shared her excitement about collaborating again with the cast, who turned the past two seasons into an awards darling. She said,

"It's exciting, too, just to get the gang back together and have everybody start talking about it."

The same day, Deadline reported that Francesca Sloane will executive produce and write Big Little Lies season 3 for HBO. Sloane previously worked on the first season of Mr. & Mrs. Smith, starring Donald Glover and Maya Erskine. She was also part of the writing teams behind shows like Glover's Atlanta and Noah Hawley's Fargo.

Big Little Lies season 3 is yet to receive an official release date.
