The Big Little Lies' return for Season 2 was one of the most exceptional "worth the wait" moments in popular culture. The series, originally intended as a miniseries, first premiered all the way back in 2017 and quickly became one of the most satisfying experiences. A Season 2 renewal for the show left the audience excited and skeptical at the same time.
However, when Season 2 returned with some of the finest actresses in Hollywood, it was clearer than ever that there was never any need for doubt. As exciting as the second season was, a fan-favorite character was amiss in Big Little Lies Season 2. However, now that we have a confirmed Season 3 on the horizon, fans are hoping that this character makes a return to the show.
Keep reading to find out which fan-favorite character was missing in Season 2 and if they will be returning in the now-confirmed Season 3.
Will Tom and The Blue Blues Cafe make a return in Big Little Lies Season 3? Here's what we know

The lovable barista Tom, played by Joseph Cross, serving his drinks at the quaint Blue Blues Cafe while the Monterey Five gathered there religiously, was one of the more loved locations for Big Little Lies, and nobody loves their locations like they do.
So, it was quite surprising when the return of the Monterey Five in Season 2 did not include the return of the quaint coffee shop and its sweet barista. Season 2 of Big Little Lies featured Meryl Streep's Mary Louise, Madeline, and Celeste having a heated encounter in a different beachside coffee shop with no sign of Joseph Cross' Tom. This came as a disappointing surprise to fans, as the Blue Blues Cafe had almost become a sixth lead on the show.
In a recent conversation with Collider, Joseph Cross addressed this absence in the show and even expressed his interest in returning for the third season with his coffee shop:
"I would love that! I loved working on that show. I think that the women on that show are extraordinary. I loved Season 2, I mean, I was a big fan, as well as a big fan of Season 1. You know, Jean-Marc Vallée is, rest his soul, one of my favorite people that I ever had the privilege of working with. So, yeah, if they're ready to open Tom's coffee shop back up, I will absolutely be there."
However pretty the new cafe is, with its outdoor seating and delicious muffins, it can never replicate the history that Big Little Lies shares with Tom and The Blue Blues Cafe, so we need to see his quaint cafe reopen in Season 3.
Big Little Lies is still a ways away, considering author Lianne Moriarty, whose novel was adapted into the show, has to pen another story for the new season. Nevertheless, the cast, the new writers, and Tom are all ready to return for the next season, so the hopes are high.
