Daredevil: Born Again had a terrific fight scene in episode nine, Straight to Hell. We get to see Matt Murdock (as Daredevil) and Frank Castle (as The Punisher) fight corrupt police officers, who were waiting for Matt to come back home from the hospital. They were sent by the show's villain, Mayor Wilson Fisk, to kill Matt. But Matt and Frank defeated them, giving us a much-appreciated fight scene.

However, it was not just a fight scene; it was much more layered than that. Charlie Cox, who plays Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil, in Daredevil: Born Again, has revealed an interesting detail about the scene that you might have missed.

Why was the Daredevil: Born Again finale fight scene different from others?

Marvel shows, especially Daredevil and Daredevil: Born Again, are known for their fight scenes. While the newest revival of the show on Disney+ did not feature as many fight scenes as the original Daredevil series, it did give us a few. The fight scene between Daredevil and Bullseye in the first episode and the street fight scene in episode five were notable ones.

However, the season finale fight scene, when Matt Murdock teamed up with Frank Castle, was one of the most appreciated fight scenes of the season. On top of that, what Charlie Cox said in a recent Instagram video reveals that the scene had much more to it than just gruesome fighting.

Cox said,

"What I didn't realize when we were shooting it, was that all of my side of the fight is a handheld camera shot at 24 frames, which means its like, plays at human speed. And all of most of Frank's side of the fight is shot at 96 frames, so it's all in slow motion, and it tells such a cool story because you really get to read the emotion behind, Frank's experience of the fight. Of course, the way he engages in combat is very different from Matt Murdock, from Daredevil."

This is an extremely interesting detail incorporated by the creative team behind Daredevil: Born Again. We understand that while everyone (including the Punisher) looks at Matt normally, Matt's view is different.

Since he cannot see, his other senses allow him to understand what's happening around him, but everything is much slower for him because he feels things almost before they happen.

Charlie Cox's explanation further makes this point clear when he says,

"It also tells a really cool story because I sometimes think of Matt Murdock has experience the world almost in slow motion because of the way he's using his heightened senses to kind of take in the world around him. I think he sees things kind of ahead of time. He almost can predict outcomes, which makes him such a great warrior."

Anybody who has watched Daredevil or Daredevil: Born Again or both has to agree that Matt's blindness isn't a weakness; it's a power. It makes him aware of every single movement around him, and he senses them differently.

As Charlie Cox eloquently points out,

"But that's the first sequence where you almost, you almost get to feel how he would experience someone else in combat. And, I thought that was really fun."

This technique of filming also showed all of The Punisher's expressions when he's fighting and killing. It highlights that while Daredevil fights to rid the city of injustice, Punisher likes to fight, cause pain, and kill. Punisher enjoys the killing, making him starkly different from Daredevil, but a perfect ally in a moment like this.

Daredevil and Daredevil: Born Again are both streaming on Disney+.
