Hacks, the HBO Max dark comedy drama, which has been renewed for a fifth season, has featured multiple guest stars over the seasons. While the show is led by a strong main cast, including Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder, the guest cast has to be credited for their contribution to the show.
We have seen Brent Sexton, Laurie Metcalf, and Seth Rogen, among others, star in guest roles and cameos on the show. When Hacks creators Lucia Aniello, Paul W. Downs, and Jen Statsky were asked by Decider who they'd like to have on the show but still haven't, the first name they gave was that of Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
Hacks creators want Julia Louis-Dreyfus on the show
Hacks follows Deborah Vance, a stand-up comedian who needs to do something new with her comedic style to remain successful, and a comedy writer, Ava Daniels, who, due to a bad tweet and even worse reputation, is out of work. They get together even though they are poles apart to help one another with their respective problems.
The show has featured several guest stars over the seasons. In the latest seasons, we got to see Julianne Nicholson and Eric Balfour, among others, in guest roles. The show is returning for a fifth season, and the creators already know who they want on the show in the future.
At the TV Academy's Inaugural Televerse Festival, when Decider asked creators Lucia Aniello, Paul W. Downs, and Jen Statsky,
"Who's on your bucket list still to work with?"
Lucia Aniello responded by saying,
"I mean we're still Julia Louis-Dreyfus heads forever."
Paul W. Downs added humorously,
"We've been stalking her."
Jen Statsky also added,
"Massive fans of hers. We'd love to have her on."

Julia Louis-Dreyfus is an actress who has won nine Primetime Emmy Awards, among many other accolades. The actress is known for playing Valentina Allegra de Fontaine in Black Widow (2021), The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021), Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022), and Thunderbolts (2025). Louis-Dreyfus is also known for playing Christine Campbell in The New Adventures of Old Christine (2006-2010) and Elaine Benes in Seinfeld.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus is known for her comedic roles and as a stand-up comedian and producer as well. Her body of work is enough reason for the Hacks creators to consider her as a potential cast member on the show.
Aniello also said,
"We still want to have Conan on the show," referring to Conan O'Brien.
Paul W. Downs also added sarcastically,
"I would love for Cher to say no again."
The creators then joked around sarcastically about how they'd love to be rejected by Cher again, implying they had approached her, but Cher had declined. We don't know if the creators would actually approach Julia Louis-Dreyfus in the near future, but if you see her on Hacks, you'd know that she has been on the creators' wishlist for a long time.
Hacks wrapped up its fourth season on May 29, 2025, and will be returning for a fifth season. The first four seasons of the show are streaming on HBO Max.
