Two years after its presumed conclusion, Ted Lasso received a new lifeline as Apple TV+ renewed the hit sports comedy-drama for a fourth season in March this year. The show, which tells the story of a college football coach hired to train an underperforming English Premier League team, has earned several accolades since its premiere in 2020.

Ever since the fourth season was announced, fans have been excited to get updates on the show’s future. Series star Hannah Waddingham, who plays AFC Richmond owner Rebecca Welton, has now shared a major update about the upcoming season’s production that is only going to add to the viewers’ excitement.

In a recent interview, the actress revealed that Ted Lasso Season 4 will begin filming in July 2025. Hence, in less than two months, the cast and crew will be back on the sets to continue the story of AFC Richmond.

Hannah Waddingham recently appeared for an interview with the UK’s Capital FM Radio, where she revealed that Ted Lasso Season 4 will start production in July this year. She added that the series died after season 3 and is now being resurrected:

“We start shooting in July. We thought we'd mourned the loss, and now it's rising from the dead!”

Waddingham further appreciated the show’s writers for their hard work and for incorporating feminist themes in the story:

“Our writers are literally Jedi Knights. They're just incredible. And we've got like a full room of real feminist men. So we've got all the fabulous women there, and the men that are in there, and I think you really see it in the scripts.”

The fourth season has been described as a self-reboot of the series, with a few of the original star cast returning. It has also been reported that the titular character will be coaching a women’s team in the upcoming installment. Talking about the story of Ted Lasso Season 4, Waddingham said:

“It’d be interesting to see that there’s always another story to tell with characters that people like, but it’s a different story. It’s almost a self-reboot. I think that he always had in his head another story he wanted to tell.”

Apart from Waddingham, Jason Sudeikis is confirmed to reprise his titular role in the upcoming season. He will also serve as an executive producer on the series. Other cast members reported to return include Brett Goldstein as Roy Kent and Jeremy Swift as Leslie Higgins. The rest of the cast remains to be finalized.

The show's creators had initially planned only three seasons of Ted Lasso, which culminated in March 2023. At the end of Season 3, Keeley Jones came up with the idea of an AFC Richmond Women’s Team, while Roy Kent became the coach of the Men’s team. Ever since, there have been demands from fans to bring the show back, which have been fulfilled by Apple TV+.

The release date for Ted Lasso Season 4 has not been announced yet.
