Gaten Matarazzo, known for his role as Dustin Henderson in Stranger Things, recently shared what it was like living with fellow cast member Finn Wolfhard while filming the show's final season. On the podcast Dinner's on Me With Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Matarazzo talked about his experience,

"I would look around three months after we lived together and [be] like, ‘This place is disgusting.’"

During the filming of Season 5, two young actors who were roommates for a year became close friends. Matarazzo said the real problem was not that they didn't care, but that they "matched each other’s energy." He explained,

"We match each other’s energy a little bit. We got along so well and had been so close for so long that we didn’t really hold each other to a standard. So we were like, ‘Ah, f--k it. Whatever, man. We’ll get to it later.'"

At one point, the mess got so bad that even they didn't want friends to visit. Gaten Matarazzo recalled that when someone said, "we’ll meet at your place," both of them reacted the same way,

"No. Do not come within 10 feet of our home."

Yet, despite the chaos, Matarazzo said living together was still "so much fun." He described the experience as a strange but meaningful time with his longtime friend.

What did Gaten Matarazzo say about living with Finn Wolfhard?

When Gaten Matarazzo spoke on the podcast, he compared their time as roommates to "a little bit of a college experience." He said everything started fine, but went downhill fast. Three months in, he looked around and asked himself, "What are we doing?"

But toward the end, they did improve. Gaten Matarazzo said they cleaned up and got better at keeping their place livable. The messy chapter ended before their time as roommates was over. Even so, Matarazzo said the experience was worth it. Living with a close friend during the final season gave them time together off-set.

What does this reveal about Gaten Matarazzo's life behind the scenes?

This story gives a rare look behind the curtain. On screen, fans see polished sets, costumes, monsters, and drama. Off-screen, actors are regular people who share flats, laundry, chores, and messy homes, just like many young adults.
