tvN never fails to excite fans with new K-dramas.
Im Yoon-ah, aka Yoona's, upcoming drama Bon Appétit, Your Majesty is set to broadcast on the network. Adapted from the famous novel Surviving as Yeonsan-gun’s Chef, it comes straight from the maker of Kim So-hyun's My Love from the Star.
The twist? The story is about a talented female chef who was about to reach a new height in her career and unexpectedly finds herself in the Joseon Dynasty. The trailer is out, in which Yoona appears alongside Lee Chae-min, who plays King Lee-heon.
However, little do fans know that Lee wasn't always the first choice to play the King of the nation. Initially, the Queen of Tears actor Park Sung-hoon was finalized for the male lead, but the actor stepped down due to the Squid Game controversy.
During the release of Squid Game Season 2, Park accidentally posted an inappropriate picture on his Instagram. It contained some naked images of the players, which he received in his DM.

Queen of Tears actor Park Sung-hoon was initially cast as King Lee-heon in Bon Appétit, Your Majesty

When Queen of Tears came out, fans couldn't stop talking about the main leads, including Park Sung-hoon. He portrayed the role of the show's biggest villain, who isn't just a bad guy but someone haunted by the childhood memories of abandonment and betrayal.
Park's character became famous for raising fans' blood pressure, while Kim So-hyun's Baek Hyun-woo raised standards. Park then appeared in the globally hit South Korean thriller, Squid Game, in which is appears as a transgender named Hyun-ju.
The star once again gained popularity for playing the role, and was then supposed to play King Lee-heon in tvN's Bon Appétit, Your Majesty. Unfortunately, Park Sung-hoon had to leave the role due to the controversy that made headlines.
Though the Queen of Tears actor shared an apology and explanation that the post was shared with him on his Instagram DM, and it suddenly got posted, the news had already spread around the globe. Then the role was eventually given to Lee Chae-min, who won hearts in the school drama, Herarchy.
In a recent interview with The Korea Times, Lee Chae-min shared his experience of being cast as King Lee-heon in Bon Appétit, Your Majesty, and how he felt. Lee said:
"It’s true I had little time, so the sense of burden and responsibility was heavy."
He continued:
"But the director invited me often before filming, so I could participate in group readings and shape the character’s tone and feel."
The actor explained that, though he had very little time, the senior actors supported him and guided him. This way, Lee Chae-min was able to get rid of the pressure to appear as the leading character alongside Yoona.

Exploring King Lee-heon of the Joseon Dynasty in Bon Appétit, Your Majesty

As seen in the trailer of Bon Appétit, Your Majesty, King Lee-heon catches Yoona's Jeong Ji-yeong and asks who she is. Since he's dressed like a King, Ji-yeong thinks he's an actor. She doesn't realise being transported to the Joseon era until placed behind bars.
The King then orders her to prove her culinary skills, and mentions that "Displease my palate, and the sentence shall be death". Ji-yeong fears getting killed just when she was about to become a rising chef in France, and impresses the King with her food.
Lee-heon is amazed by the dishes and mentions that Ji-yeong's skills are beyond this era. The trailer features comedic moments with a hint of romance between the chef and the King. So, if they fall in love, will Ji-yeong stay in the era?
