This Star Trek actor joins the cast of Boston Blue in one of the key roles

Fans should gear up for the brand new spin-off, Boston Blue, which will continue the tradition left behind in Blue Bloods. This means the story isn't over yet, and a new family is also set to take over.

It will be centered on one of the beloved characters, Detective Danny Reagan, played by Donnie Wahlberg. The biggest news? Danny's new partner has been cast, and she is a familiar name to science fiction fans.

Sonequa Martin-Green, the actress known for playing the lead in Star Trek: Discovery, has joined Boston Blue as Detective Lena Peters. Being a spin-off of the acclaimed CBS drama, this new character isn’t just any new cop on the scene.

Lana comes from a long line of law enforcement officers and is the eldest daughter in a family with deep roots in the police force, much like the Reagans. As reported by Variety, this casting news was confirmed during a CBS press event in Los Angeles.

Additionally, Wahlberg will be contributing to the spin-off by not just playing Danny, but also serving as an executive producer. This update confirms that Wahlberg will leave no stone unturned to keep with the legacy created by Blue Bloods.

Star Trek actor Sonequa Martin-Green has been cast in Boston Blue

Sonequa Martin-Green is among the renowned stars from the Star Trek franchise, who became famous for her role as Michael Burnham in Star Trek: Discovery. As previously explained, the actress will play a key role alongside Donnie Wahlberg, who's also excited for their collaboration in Boston Blue.

Interestingly, Martin-Green was the only person they seriously considered for the role of Lena. That says a lot about the confidence the team has in her performance and presence. The actress also expressed her thoughts, saying:

"We love the Reagans. We have all loved the Reagans for so long. And I feel that we’ll love the Peters too."

The Star Trek actress continued:

"I’m super excited for this partnership, and to be back in a CBS family — and in this family, your family. It means a lot, and I’m grateful for it. I think we’re going to have a good time."

Sonequa Martin-Green shed light on how special the Reagans are and believes audiences will come to care just as deeply about the Peters family. This is the second time she's working with CBS, making her involvement in the Boston Blue special.

As for the story in the upcoming spin-off, Donnie Wahlberg has also explained that Boston Blue isn't just a deep exploration of Danny's life, but also introduces viewers to the Peters family as a parallel to the Reagans.

He pointed out that the idea of tight-knit law enforcement families isn’t unique to just one household — they exist all across the country. The actor said:

"They’re in every state, every city, every town, everywhere, and there are other families around that have stories to tell too."

While Boston Blue will still be rooted in the world of Blue Bloods, it’s going to expand that universe by spotlighting another family’s experiences in the line of duty. In short, Lena Peters will be more than just a new detective in Danny’s life as fans will see her story unfolding alongside the continuing legacy of the Reagans.
