The highly appreciated Season 2 finale of The Mandalorian (titled Chapter 16: The Rescue) came with a major surprise for the Star Wars fans, as the post-credits scene of the episode landed us in a brand new journey. Yes, we are talking about The Book of Boba Fett, another spin-off show that connected the rescue of Grogu to the OG show's third chapter.
After an intense finale of The Mandalorian Season 2, where we see Mando & Grogu going separate ways (an action-filled yet emotional episode), expectations had always been high among the viewers. However, The Book of Boba Fett was welcomed with mixed reviews, given the fact that the focus of the plot shifted from Boba Fett to Din Djarin in one of the episodes titled Chapter 5: Return of the Mandalorian.
It, as expected, garnered a lot of social media attention and eventually landed in controversy. But Din Djarin, aka Pedro Pascal himself, back in 2022, had addressed the concerns while in an interview with Empire Magazine and rather praised the episode, saying:
"I just thought that was brilliant. What I didn't expect is such a beautiful, lonely episode that Bryce Dallas Howard directed so incredibly."
Star Wars franchise star Pedro Pascal is a fan of this episode of The Book of Boba Fett inspite of all the controversies
The Book of Boba Fett Episode 5, titled Chapter 5: Return of the Mandalorian, is one of the favorites of Pedro Pascal despite the minor backlash it received owing to its creative treatment. The spin-off show embarked on the journey of our titular character (played by Temuera Morrison) following the intense showdown in The Mandalorian Season 2 finale (where Boba captures the throne of Jabba the Hutt after eliminating Bib Fortuna).
The finale played a bittersweet symphony and concluded, keeping the fans expecting a whole lot of things—not to mention how the creators teased the audience with the spin-off show during the final episode's post-credits scene. However, when Mando made his return to the sci-fi franchise in Episode 5 of The Book of Boba Fett, it brought our titular hero completely to the limelight.
What was supposed to be a feature had put all the focus on Din Djarin instead, and consequently it was not received very well by the viewers. Despite the high ratings on IMDb (and the show overall doing well), the episode bagged quite some negative reviews from critics as well as the audience.
It was at that time when Pedro Pascal shared his feelings on the controversial Star Wars rendition and mentioned that it was a 'brilliant' move by the creative team to bring back a fan-favorite character and portray the 'beautiful, lonely' journey of Din Djarin (given the fact that Grogu was not with him then). According to Empire Magazine, Pascal reportedly mentioned in a statement at Star Wars Celebration 2022:
"It was scary, wasn't it? To be separated like that. Jon Favreaua and Dave Filoni, showrunners called me, and they told me that they would be bridging seasons two and three with The Book Of Boba Fett, as far as Mandalorian and Grogu were concerned."
In Episode 6 of The Book of Boba Fett, we see Grogu choosing his friend Mando over his Jedi training (he was then under the guidance of Luke Skywalker). However, in the seventh episode (Chapter 7: In the Name of Honor), viewers witness the much-awaited and heartwarming reunion of The Mandalorian & Grogu. Justifying the same, Pedro Pascal mentioned in his interview with Empire Magazine that it was the perfect drive for the story of Mando and Grogu to take its natural course in The Mandalorian Season 3 and any further spin-off shows or movies.
