This The Last of Us star has not watched Season 2 yet, and their reasoning does make sense

The Last of Us Season 2 finished airing on HBO at the end of May, but one of the original cast members of the show hasn’t watched it yet. Nico Parker, who starred in the first season as Sarah Miller, has revealed that she could not make herself watch the second season of the series as she does not want to see Pedro Pascal die.

Considering how gruesome Joel’s death scene was, and how the audience reacted to it, Nico’s reasoning does make sense. She shared screen space with Pedro by starring as Joel’s daughter in the debut season, and played an integral part in shaping his journey.

Talking about why she has not watched The Last of Us Season 2 yet, Nico Parker said that even Pedro keeps asking her the same question. She revealed in an interview with IGN:

“I can't watch Pedro die! Are you kidding? He's been hounding. Not really, but he keeps being like, ‘Have you seen it yet? What have you think of it?’ And I'm just like ‘I can't, I literally can't do it!’”

Nico Parker added that though she has not mustered up the courage to watch her on-screen father die in The Last of Us, she still wants to watch the show for the brilliant performances of the cast, especially of Bella Ramsey:

“But I think that the cast is so brilliant, and I'm so excited to see Bella just absolutely storm it. So I do need to watch it. I've seen some of it. I can't watch that episode. But I am gonna do it, I think.”

The actress further said that she will need some time to recover from the trauma after watching Joel’s death scene:

“But I just need to have, like, three days of, you know, rest period afterwards. I keep seeing clips, and it's just too much. I can't, it makes me too sad.”

Joel was surprisingly killed off in The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 2 when Abby attacked him to avenge her father’s death. Though the death was certain as per the game’s lore, nobody expected Pedro to be written off the show this early in the season. The actor then made a few appearances in flashback sequences in the latter episodes.

Meanwhile, Nico Parker has not been seen in the show since the first season, as Sarah Miller died in the very first episode when the infection started spreading. However, her character did affect Joel’s journey and his relationship with Ellie.

Following her departure from the post-apocalyptic drama, Nico has been seen in the films Suncoast, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, and more recently, in the live-action How to Train Your Dragon.

Meanwhile, The Last of Us has already been renewed for a third season, which is said to focus on Abby’s storyline. The show currently stars Bella Ramsey as Ellie, Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Gabriel Luna as Tommy, Isabela Merced as Dina, and Young Mazino as Jesse.
