The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards aired on 14th September 2025, on CBS at 8 pm E.T., awarding the professionals of American prime time television programming which aired from 1st June 2025 to 31st May 2025. Shows like The Studio and The Pitt have won multiple awards, but the artists are not the only ones who were excited for the ceremony this year.
As Variety reports, 7.4 million viewers tuned into CBS on Sunday to watch the ceremony live from their homes. This is the highest viewership the award ceremony has seen since 2021.
Details about the 2025 Emmys viewership
Ever since the nominations for the Emmys were announced in July, actors, producers, directors, and everybody who works in television has been eagerly waiting for September. The Creative Arts Emmy Awards and the Primetime Emmy Awards were held on 7th and 14th September 2025, respectively. The latter was held at the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles and as Variety reports, 7.4 million viewers tuned in to watch the ceremony on CBS and Paramount+.
The number of views for the ceremony hasn't been this high since 2021. In 2021, the ceremony was coincidentally aired on CBS, and it brought in 7.4 million views then as well. This is not just great news for the ceremony, but also for CBS. In the years between 2021 and 2025, the ceremony has been aired on NBC, Fox, and ABC. Thus, the ceremony did not have this much viewership when it was aired on a different network, making it a significant win for CBS.
There was a significant fall in the Primetime Emmy Awards 2023, which hit a record low of 4.46 million. It fell that low because the award ceremony aired in January, four months after it was held (which is September). Besides, it was aired on the same night as an NFL game, for which many viewers tuned in, and thus not many for the award ceremony.
Some of the most significant wins from this year's Emmys include Noah Wyle winning Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, Seth Rogan winning Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, and Stephen Graham winning Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie. The Studio won in the category Outstanding Comedy Series, The Pitt won Outstanding Drama Series, and Adolescence won Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series. As it is evident, The Pitt, The Studio and Adolescence have had major wins, with The Studio scoring the highest number of Emmys this year with 13 wins.
The Penguin's Cristin Milioti won Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie. Severance's Tramell Tillman and Britt Lower have won Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, respectively. Andor won Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series. Owen Cooper became the youngest person to win Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for his work in Adolescence.
